Mattyice 240G cube - Complete reef setup

the flow will be pretty much the same throughout the tank, most of my flow will be pointed at the SPS island with two vortechs running in lagoon mode and then 4 returns pointed at them, i will then have 2 vortechs running in a wave mode creating side to side flow in the tank

Wondering if you've kept Achilles or Clown tangs before? I've never heard of anyone keeping Achilles successfully over a year without them dieing, unless they're kept in a large school like they're found naturally. I believe Atlantis has some, but there are like 10 of them. They're very gregarious in nature and would only be alone if sick or injured, so they will perish if alone as they are constantly stressed if kept singly. Clowns Tangs are difficult as well but far from impossible. Have to get one that eats first, then you have a decent chance.

Love the tank! I am building a similar dimensioned plywood tank -that is taking forever... I'll be following along.

im going to try a small group of 3 small achilles to see how it works out, im hoping it does, i have a dealer that can get me 3 small achilles tangs and they should be EXTREMELY healthy from what other ones i have seen him bring in

matt before you order the achilles talk to BrianD he succsesfully kept them in his 500g i understand.

I had a clown tang in my 150 the fish was very hardy but I have to warn you they are very aggressive towards other fish(other tangs mostly) I also had 3 yellow,1 kole,1,purple.The clown became very bossy when feeding. The clown will push other fish around when its feeding time.Mine was about 3 1/2' to 4" and yet he was pushy towards fish that were larger than him.I will also warn you not to use the osmolator to top off your kalk reactor unless you want to come home to a dead tank.Mine siphoned out my top off container into the reactor and then stopped working. The litre meter has an anti siphon valve in it so you can't siphon out any water.I am using the aqua medic sp 3000 with my new setup but I was told that unit doesn't have any anti siphon capabilities so for now I just started my tank I have 2 fish so I set up the unit but put no kalk inside.I didn't get a siphon when testing it but when I start to use it I won't put to much kalk inside just in case.I may end up buying the Aqua tronica doser since I have the controller and it will cost me just as much as the litre meter

well i will have to see how it will work with my setup and go from there, i still have to test everything and will do so before i start up the tank so we will see

Like I said the osmolator will siphon out the kalk water. It happened to me.I still use it but only for top off.I am going to use my controller with the pump to top off kalk water

well i will have to look into that then, its just i need two pumps for the water exchange system and i have my litermeter doing that, im sure there is someway to get the osmolator for siphoning i will just have to look into it

Crazy looks almost exactly like mine except yours is 24" tall and mine is 20" tall. And made out of all 3/4" thick acrylic Check it out!

I'd be curious to see how our plans turn out close or not so close.

I'd love to have the Orca skimmer :( Oh well.

When you setting it up? Mine will be next summer for water I think.

mine will be the end of the month for water, most likely the first of the year for dedicated stocking and such, i have most of the stuff in a frag tank and i want to give the tank a good cycle before i start putting stuff in

NICE!! Where did you get the nylon rods.

Love the stacked look. Thought about doing that in my tank. Will see if my local buddy has more acrylic rod left

i got the nylon rod through US plastics, another place that might be in your area is called fastenal they would sell it too

thanks for the compliments! i worked very hard and cherry picked each one of the pieces of rock just to get an aquascape like that

I love that kind of rock. Its so porous, the small amount of it that I have in my 10g is growing all kinds of stuff off of it.
