Max. Thickness for MP40

I know the published specs, but curious whether anyone has been able to make the Vortech MP40 work on 1" thick aquarium walls? I'm quite willing to support the dryside, but does that extra thickness mean the pump actually doesn't work? Maybe the wetside won't spin properly?

From what I remember they will transfer torque but not support the dryside.
