Maxi Jet Mods?

Hello,

Questions about the MJ Mods?

Is the spread pattern wide, or does it start out narrow, then fan out? (Like a Tunze)

If you use a MJ 900, how much should the flow be in GPH?

What are the noise levels of these like? Can't imagine they'd be too loud, but....

Thanks!

1600 gph
The flow is a little like a Tunze. It's pretty quiet as long as you don't put it on a wave maker where it needs to restart all the time. I never recommend putting one on a wave maker, but others have done it.

I just bought two of these last week. They have a nice wide pattern with lots of flow. Unfortunately, they vibrate VERY loud. I've tried everything I could to get them to quiet down. After listening to them for a few days, I removed them. Hopefully I'll be able to use them some day as I really like the flow they give. Mine were the Sure Flow 1600.

I wonder if they other 'brands' of MJ mods are quieter.

Chris, did you have any issues with these pumps?

They do require a little of maintenance to keep them running like many other powerheads. IMO the MJ mods are a little more sensitive to gunk than the Koralias and they were the first ones to stall.

I only have 2 of the SureFlow kits and the 2 of the DIY shrouds (purchased a while back from the old site TwoPartsSolutions). I don't have the other MJ Mods (for example the EcoMod). I didn't have any vibration noises on mine except when they spin backward due to a power failure, or when I turn them off.

If you have a spare MaxiJet then getting the mod kit isn't a bad idea for the short run. For long term I think it's better to spend the extra money and buy a real powerhead. They were the greatest things back in the day before the Koralia and the other powerheads were released.
