Maxijet Mods

I remember someone on here mentioning that someone locally produced these... any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

It depends on the mod and what are you keeping in the 29G.
I have one (double impeller) in my 75G.

I don't think it'd be too much. You can get the parts at mjmods.com but read the last 5 pages or so of the hitchhiker thread about clipping off the end of the impeller and using rigid tubing.

I got mine from the starter of the thread, great guy, unbeatable price. Email him.

Does anyone know how much these people charge to do a MJ mod? Also, do you have to supply the pump or will they do it with a brand new one?

G13- yeah, it drastically increases the flow rate. I saw someone claim 2000gph. I am a little skeptical about that, but it will be putting out alot more than the original 295gph. The good thing about getting the MJ modded instead of buying a different powerhead w/ a higher flow rate is that the MJ's are very reliable, unlike, say, Rio's.

I have done a couple of the mods myself now. I have also had to go through the problems with the mods. I feel now that I have them made so they are reliable. the flow rate depends on what prop you use. I use a prop that allow an 1 1/2 ABS pipe for the outlet tube. I think this looks better, and still gives decent flow. Sometimes it's too much flow. I cant mount my MJMOD more than 5" from the surface. It will pull down air from the surface like a vortex and makes an awful noise. Just what my wife loves to hear in the middle of the night.....thwuuuuuuuuckkkkkk. I am currently needing to get magnets to hold the things down because they eventually wiggle loose from the suction cup and then go jetting about the tank. I wouldnt be opposed to making the mod for someone, even though they are pretty easy to make. If someone would like to work out a trade drop me a PM. I am just starting up a tank and could use some frags.

I just sent the impeller to Danh and he did it for $15. Octura 1435 puts out around 1200-1500GPH. 1.75" Dumas is easily 2500GPH.

This is comparing dispersal of food and sand displacement effects against a Tunze 6060 at 1600GPH.

REad the hitchhiker thread for details on these. All the info is there, though it is a long thread. Read backwards from the end.

ostrow,
How fare down in the tank do your streams go. The way I want to arange my tank is to have streams near the bottom and midd level. I think these guys put too much force on the down rod to mount them low in the tank.

@Ostrow.......Nice Tank! What is controlling your powerheads to swivel back and forth? And how much is that type of set-up?

Sea-swirls. I have a thread on how I did it, just search.

Stogie: if you have a sandbed, bad idea. If you don't then anywhere will be great.

Using the search option on this website is a lost cause since I'm not a paying member. I've tried using it at early mornings 1-4 a.m. and still couldn't get through to use it.

@Ostrow,
I am running a bare bottom so I want sediment and detritus to kickud up. I have found with my current MJ's that of detritus and sediment build up in a couple places on the tank bottom. Unfortunately one of the places is in under the rock structure. I now need to find a creative way to get under the rock to suck that stuff out. I am not against sand beds I just want mine in a fuge above the tank that flows into the main display. If I remember correctly you were the one who bought a Tunze stream from me in Elgin. I have converted that back room into my reef madness room.

G13- use the search tool on the upper lefthand side of the home page instead of the search button on the upper right side.

I purchased mine from dhnguyen, it run me around $30+ and I had to ship him the impeller. Works excellent!
