I was considering this too for my new build, but decided to stick with the koralia. If you've already got the Maxi and magnet might be worth it but if not the Koralia 4 can be had cheaper...and it uses less than half the wattage of a Maxi 1200.

It uses half the wattage of a normal MaxiJet, but a modded one with a propeller uses less wattage as well.

Watts

Watts

Here is the wattage of the Sure Flow 1600 on the respective power heads:

400 - 11w
600 - 11w
900 - 11w
1200 - 17w

That wattage list didn't make any sense to me. Why would the mod cause the MJ400, MJ600, and MJ900 use more power than stock? If anything it should be less not more.

D.

One of the reasons is that the magnets are not the same as they are in the stock MJ’s. In the stock MJ's the magnets are all different strengths. They are the strength of the magnet in the stock MJ1200.

Hmmm You can't really test the mod using a mj1200 magnet on the smaller mj400, mj600, and mj900 motors and expect to get any realistic numbers. In the various MJs, not only the motors are of different strength but also the impeller magnets themselves.

This is is not the case, the motors are the exact same in the MJ400 and 600, the 900. the windings in the 1200 are different.

This is why the 1200 will spin the 3004 prop and the others will not.

So the tests were using each seperate motor with the same propeller and magnet. The tests dont lie.

I really don't think the motors are the same. For example the MJ400 and MJ900 are definitely not the same.

Put a MJ900 impeller into a MJ400 motor and see... They are not the same.

The MJ600 and MJ900 the same motor... Possibly.

I have modded and tested these pumps long enough to know this.

SF Test No Load Load(using SF1600)
Pump DC Actual Watts Actual Watts
400 170 5 11
600 170 5 11
900 170 5 11
1200 92 10 17

These age the figures for the test.
Test them and see what you get.

i have been told tht their is a powerhead that is mag drive from out side the glass and has no cords in the tank and it works with a wave maker and has up to 1000gph but my LFS has it for $400. so no good. But I did see the ecomod at a locak frag swap and it was cool and I have been looking for it. So I will more than likley do the 1200's 2 of them with the mood in mt 330g and see how it work but I would like to hear a response to the above questions.
You are speaking of the Ecotech Marine Vortec Pump. This pump does do a whole lot more than 1000gph. More like 3000gph.

Well i received mine today, just as expected it was a 30 second mod, as easy as taking out the maxijet and putting it back......well almost anyhow. With the magnet yes...without no. I'm going to order some mags taht D suggested for 10 bux and supperglue. Now for the flow.......its much more than a regular maxijet but i'm not super impressed. For 40 bux + shipping for a maxi and the maxflo + 10+ shipping for some magnet's for it to work correctly imo its not worth it. The flow is less than my hydor 4. And its suppose to be 400gph more. Just my thoughts.

Alright man, just ordered that one and a magnet.....should be here by next week. If it sucks....I'll put your kids finger in your mouth...thats "using the force"
