How high up does it need to be? My GS2 highflow kit is placed with the shroud about 3 inches down from the surface, I can't imagine needing to place it any higher up.
3"?? Mine has to go down like 5" :(... i would like it higher cause I want to place an anemone in the spot under it on a rock thats close to the powerhead

well i have a wavebox so that 3" turns into 2" with it on.

I want my pumps about 1.5" from the surface. So with the wavebox on its about .5" from the surface.

My tank is 13" tall. O)

Dnguyen,
I dry tested this one (1 on each side), the mags are not even strong enough to hold the pump thru a 1/4" flexi glass? With the spec below, it should be equal, or closed to the D3006E from Gaussboys, correct? Thanks. shin.

Can't speak from experience about the kj mags, but the 60lb gaussboys are pleeeennnnty strong. However: Their epoxy is way thin and scratched super easy. I was not going to take chances, so I re-epoxied them myself.

That makes me wonder about the kj magnets. It could not even hold the pump even I double the magnets (2 on each side). How much weight you think the gaussboys can hold thru 1/2" glass?

I ordered two of the gulfstream kits and they put out some serious flow. I was going to put two on my 60 gallon...but i think one may be enough. Only thing is after an hour of use, the impeller keeps hitting the stopper...not sure whats going on. If i hold the pump so that its half exposed to air it works fine...its almost as if when its under water, the water is pushing the impeller forward into the stopper. I figured its spinning the wrong way, but i can't get it work. I switched the impeller attachment with my second kit and everything works fine. Not sure whats wrong with the first impeller...maybe i'll email triton and see if they have any ideas.

Not sure about that particular magnet you posted but it looks kinda small to me.

This is the one I used from KJmagnetics

and it was plenty strong

Are you using MJ1200 or MJ900?

Yeah, my new GS kit does not want to restart after I cut the power. I have to manually hit the prop to get it to go. It could be because of the crappy 7 year old pump though.

Its the MJ900. So far its been running with the other impeller for about 3 hours now. I can't get it to work correctly with the other impeller anymore...though i compared the two and they both pretty much look exactly the same...

That would be why the MJ900 can't really spin the Dumas prop reliably. Try the medium Octura prop instead. Otherwise you will need the MJ1200 motor to spin the highflow GS2 kit.

On a side note, I just cleaned one of my Sureflow mod kit and the mount broke :(

I wasn't even close to being rough on it either.

It broke cleanly where the little shaft is connected to the ball joint so there will be no easy/feasible way to fix it.

Just a little FYI for Sureflow owners.

Sounds like your pump could use a soak in Muriatic acid/water bath :)
