Options:

1) Point them so they sweep past as many corals as possible or where your corals will grow into. For example, if you have a wall place them at one end and point them along the face.

2) If they are not on wavemakers, point them so they set up a circular current throughout the whole tank. Usually this means upper back corner pointing along the back face of the tank but with a center overflow box that might not work so well.

Actually every tank is different and has different flow needs.

I only have 2 MJ1200 mods in my 125g tank yet I have plenty of flow everywhere. Absolutely no dead spots anywhere.

Then again my rockwork/aquascape was designed specifically to maximize the flow while using the least number of pumps in the tank.

Here's what I did. One pump is on in the morning and then the other later around noon or so. Then in the evening one would be turned off for that calm sea feel. Mostly for aesthetics really but even with just the one pump running, there is still plenty of flow within the tank that not much settled on the bottom.

In my 90 I have a full-time 1600 gph tunze stream creating a gyre and a controlled (100% to 50%) 1500 gph Seio sweeping the face in the gyre's central dead spot. I wish I had more.

The more rock and the more your corals grow the more they slow the flow.

Yeah but mine aren't 1600 gph pumps :D They're 2000+ gph each.

And as you can see I have realtively very little rock in my tank.

got my new 2000 gph props in today, thanks algeafree.

i really need to get some magnets so that i can move the power head toward the front point toward the opposite back corner or maybe just down the middle cause it has moved all my sand to bare bottom with just the 1600 gph prop. i dont even want to know what the 2000 gph prop willl do.

the new prop is new so the break in isnt complete, its doesnt have the same hum, but i havent put much attention to the noise now when the kids are making most the noise. i will listen to these new props later tonite when things have quite down in the house

Hey NBR,
I'm using MJ 1200's for the pump. I'm pretty happy with the flow they provide. I might try and go with the bigger props if they sell them seperately.....but not really sure if I need to.

The tank is an Oceanic RR 120 w/ dual overflows in the corners of the tank. I have two Tunze Stream 6000's (up 1850 gph) on a 7095 controller, and the sump return is a PanWorld 100PX-X pumping about 960 gph (as per RC calculator) through a WavySea Plus.

Nick

With those pumps you have plenty of flows so you probably don't need to add anymore.

I put the 65# magnets on and noticed that part of the coating was scrached off what will this do when it starts to rust in my tank?

If you worry about the rust, take it out and put on a dab of silicon on it

would you need two magnets or could you use one of the 60# magnets with a piece of metal on the outside of the tank? (100 gallon glass)

Has anyone tried to change the props on the hydors yet? That pump seems like you could get much more flow out of it.

Yes, you do get more flow but its not worth it. Get the Sureflow its alot smaller and put out much more flow

Wholly Crap...
This thread has nearly exceeded 23 page's! (?) lol...
So to pitch in my $.02, I installed (2) new MJ 1200's with Sure Flow 1600 upgrade's into my display and I LOVE THEM : ) (so does the tank...) No noticable noise - awesome flow!
