I have a dersa clam in a my 20 and its 3-4". Would I be okay with a 2.5" maxima? I don't skim, but do a 10% water change. It would be under a 150w HQI. Yay or nay?

yea you'll be fine i have a 29 gallon and basicly i have same exact situation as you 150 watt mh hqi and no skim but i dont do water changes that often and it is really healthy had it for about 2 months

well i have had my tank running for 4 years and have been very succesful and i want to put a skimmer on my tank but my dad won't allow me to because he thinks the tank is already doing good so why chnge anything, what i really want to do is install a sump have a fuge in it a skimmer but that wont hapen until i move out and i got quite a few years till then

o i know i didnt mean to sound harsh or anything (sorry if i did) yea but the water is not as clear as i would like it to be though, i might get a hang on back remora and see if there is a change then i will decide if i want to keep or sell the remora either way im keepign my filter (350 magnum canister) so if i keep the skimmer i can run carbon through it and i think that keeping a filter helps because it takes a lot of the bigger chunks of gunk of out the water that the skimmer cannot

If the skimmer is in your bedroom, you may need ear plugs for sleeping. Skimmers do make noise, but help to keep the O2 concentration high.

no its in my living room which is one of the reasons my dad doesnt want a skimmer becaus eof the noice he like sit how it is quiet and relaxing and looks good in the tank, could look better with a skimmer but i go along with it i getting a skimmer wheter he like sit or not :)
