I am purchasing 3 maxima clams from a friend. I was wondering if there is any special way to remove them since they are all sitting on live rock. I dont want to hurt the foot and what are the bissal threads? Should i just take the whole rock too?

live rocks are usualy prety soft, you can use a knife or chisel and cut out the rock part where the foot is attached to, or chip off the chunk of the rock that the clam is attaching to. And if your friend let you, take the whole rock :D

If you can get something under the clam, preferably a finger rub the threads and they will release. It works surprisingly well. When I worked at the pet store my guru would cut them as close to the attatching point as you can get. I never got the nerve to do it. If you can take the whole rock it is the absolute best solution though.

If you can wait. Just shade the clams. In a day or so, they will let go.
