Running a 6x54 watt Sunlight fixture with individual reflectors. Can I put a new Maxima direclty on my sandbed?

Should I rest him on a small piece of rubble rock first for him to attach to?

thanks

I can't really answer because I wouldn't know.

But, for the benefit of those that can help, how deep is your tank? :)

20 inches deep. but there is a 4 inch sandbed.... so really 16 inches to the water level. The T5's sit about 6 inches above the water.

ryan, maxima's can adapt to more moderate levels, i.e. lower than for crocea's but are better with higher and it's not a great idea to maintain the best color and patterning long term. i'd place it on rock at midpoint and slightly angled to show off the iridescence.

I have a teardrop Maxima on the sand bed under T5 and it is doing great. You should gave no issues if you have right T5 bulbs.

Could you please elaborate on the right T5 bulbs for clams?

What I meant by that is as long as you don't have a few actinics you should be fine.

What bulbs do you currently have?

Front
ATI Blue+
ATI Aquablue
ATI Blue+
ATI Pro Color

Me? Please look first at HaleMoana set-up (his thread). He's got a 6x54watt T5 Tek Sunlight Supply lighted as follows:

Front
ATI Blue+
ATI Aquablue
ATI Blue+
ATI Pro Color
ATI Aquablue
ATI Blue+
Rear

Also, what is situation with clams and actinics?

Everything looks fine concerning your bulb selection. I had the same bulbs but got rid of the Pro Color and now strictly run Aquablues and Blue+'s.

The Blue+'s are great bulbs and put out almost as much PAR as the Aquablues.

If you are not doing so already, place a fan blowing air across the bulbs to get more output and increase the lifespan of the bulbs.
