Maxima or Crocea

Look at this clam. What do you think? I will show picture of the bysal opening later.

Judging from the teardrop type pattern that I don't think I've seen on Croceas and uniform pattern of the dots around the parameter of the mantal (I forget the name), I would say NICE Maxima!?

He is a Vietnamese clam. His incurrent syphon is open like that all the time like a Crocea. IMO, his eye spots pattern is somewhat like a Crocea and the shape of the mantle is also more like that of a Crocea. His shell is not as elongate as other Vietnamese Maxima. His color pattern is not at all like other Vietnamese Maxima. IMO, it is very possible that we have a hybrid of Crocea and Maxima here.
I have not look at his byssal opening yet other than when I put him into the tank to check for parasitic snails. I was putting a large number of clams into my tank so I actually don't remember what his openings is like. I have to pull him and take a picture of it later.

Any chance you could post a pic of the shell profile also?
Either way, a very nice looking clam.

I will go out of town this afternoon so I think it will be Sunday befor I can pull him out to take pictures of his shell and byssal opening.

I was going to say Crocea, but only because you're asking. I figured it was a trick question. :D

I really have no clue. From the mantle alone, it does not look anything like the Croceas I've seen.

Need a pic of the shell.
Can not say from the mantle.
The pattern is a max for sure, need to see the shell, and if this wont help the byssal opening
