maximum T5 height

I would like to add 2 more 24w T5 bulbs over my tank. They only way that I think I can get them in would be to have them 13 inches off the water. With that height, will there be any added benefit from adding the lights? should I look up adding VHOs instead.

Current setup
40br
250w MH a little off centered
2x24w T5 (fiji purple and actinic +)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would ask in the T5 Q&A thread, you should get a quick response. Grim Reefer is the T5 guru and he frequents it.

13" is going to be awfully high.. I am not saying it won't help but not as much as it should or as much as it will be costing you $$ to run, at least in my opinion...

Agreed that 13" is pretty darn high. Generally t5 guys run them at 3-4" off the surface of the water. It may help with supplemental light, but not much with par.
