Maxspect LED owners!!!

Thanks for the info Jeff. If they would add a simple circuit to control the intensity they would probably sell a whole bunch more units.

I agree with you dimming is fun but compare them to any other fixture on the market like T5 MH....did they dim and did we need it?
Your better custom them and change a couple of LED to your personal preference than shut down the color you don't like.

This gadget taste for dimming from many people confuse me a bit. Some seem to forget the most important factor here. I prefers to be able to custom my color the way I want over dimming feature. I don't want to only shut down the color I don't like but change it to my taste. Also don't forget LED is new tech no one know exactly what color combination is best. Read the forum and one of the most frequent question we see is what it the best new MH or T5 lamp. We still don't know the best in MH and T5 color after 15 year. how can anyone could know it for LED! Also im sure we will discover new color and I don't see my self be stock with something I cannot customize.

The first feature for me is to be able to change the fixture they way I like it. Dimming is something cool but in no way it should replace the freedom to customs my color. Im sure some of those hight tech LED fixture with dimming function will finish in a closet after the user will discover he cannot upgrade it to it taste or add the new taste of the month color.

The reason I find the dimming aspect important is I would like to have the ability to increase or decrease par without having to move the fixture. I'm not by any means bashing the fixture.

Greetings to everyone on here. I am a newbie when it comes to LED's. I have a G2 maxspect 110w. I was wondering how they 90 degrees optic upgrade and the 60 degrees optic upgrade would help me. Any info would help. Thank you!

Does anyone like the violet leds or should they be switched out to blues or some other color ? I am thinking of taking a chance on a 160 for a 70 cube . I will get the optics to help if needed . Thoughts ?? I am SPS dominant . Most rock is centered in cube. No rock is touching the glass with a minimum of 4 + inches all around .

A friend of mine got his G2 Extreme with optics and high-gloss piano finish, I took these photos with an iPhone so it doesn't really do enough justise of showing how nice it really looked like.

So who else has ordered optics and colored LED's since they went on the Finsreef site last weekend? I've have a G2 160W and ordered the 90 deg kit, 4 60 deg clear lenses, 2 Cree cyan (480 nm) LED's, and 2 620 nm red LED's.

I have it hanging about an inch above the rim, but want to use the narrower 90 deg angle to be able to raise the fixture a few more inches to accentuate the rimless look and increase the spotlighting effect, yet get more light into the tank and less spill. The 60 deg lenses also are to reduce spill, haven't decided whether to use them on the ends or in the back where the overflow is centered.

The LED's are to experiment with the color range, and also I'd like to get more blue and less yellowish when all three channels are on (otherwise I mostly run two channels and the 30W Semi's off). Any recommendations on color combinations?

In addition to the above, I have at home a handful of Cree CW XP-G, CW XR-E, and RB XP-E's stars. Anyone know of a place to order the small pin connectors? With the extra LED's I ordered, I have a few to work with, but I don't want to keep soldering and unsoldering them to experiment with different combos.

Wow, the new 160W Maxspect Extreme is really nice. They replaced the two 30W with four 15W LEDs. That plus using the 60 degree optics should give you awesome PAR at the bottom of most tanks. I wonder if Fins Reef sells the 15W LEDs. I would like to replace two of my 30W with those for my G2 230W.

Did not see 15 watt leds there on the site . Most were semi leds except for a cree xpg ? My plans went down the drain for a 160 . The sweet spot pricing time frame is gone . Now I am trying to figure out if I can get it done with a 110 extreme or a AI sol blue .. I like the fact that the Maxspect are hot swappable on repairs for replacement leds. The Sol is the same in some aspects too.
I would love to see how much the par has increased ( if any ) with the optics on the Maxspect .

I'll be adding PAR results from G2 after the addition of optics and LED upgrades to my PAR Measurements thread. It's a long read (28 pages) and focuses on the AI LEDS, but it does contain comparative PAR and coloration data on both the AI SOL White and Blues and the G2 which I have running side-by-side.

The thread has also been nominated by Reef Central for Novembers thread of the month. If you have a moment, you can Cast Your Vote Here.

Thanks!

You did a lot of good work there Tom . I read the whole thread several times . It's amazing the other manu have stepped up their product lines . I am ready to try led . I had my mind made up on a certain unit but the market has changed . (meaning they went up in pricing ) . I see their upgrades/ pricing which has also made the AI unit seem more appealing to get .

Thanks Mordibv,

I'm looking forward to the optics and LED upgrades for the 160. I think the ability for hobbyists to customize the spectrum in a plug-n-play fashion will lead to more people experimenting with LEDs and will yield performance improvements (specifically coloration.) Optics were my most desired upgrade followed by dimming and/or controller integration.

It would be nice if the clock kept a little better time too :)

LEDs seem to be the future

LEDs seem to be the future

It seems like these lights just keep getting better with the whole plug and play aspect. I just wonder when the price is going to drop so its affordable.

I wonder what color do the 15 watt 16k LEDs really are, any ideas? how do they compare to the yellow color from the 30 watt LEDs?

I'm planning to upgrade my current 2 x 65 watt power compacts on a 38 corner bowfront tank to LED's and I was wondering if the 60W would work? I'm not after any PAR increase over what I have now (but it would be nice) I just like the color, shimmer and long term cost effectiveness. Thanks!
