Maxspect LED owners!!!

I have a 5.5ftx24inx22in tank which would make it about 150g. Right now im running 3 maxspect g2 160w and so far everything is going great. I was however considering adding on the optics for my 3 units. What do you guys think? Would this improve the growth and coloration of my sps?

Currently i keep my lights on for around 10hrs a day but the 30w are only on for 5hrs a day.

How are the growth and coloration you have right now? Are you happy with it?

Arctinic (Blue/violet): 13 hrs
Blue + white: 9 hrs
All on: 5 hrs

Does anyone know if the 170 or 230 version would work on a 48X36X20 tank withough any black spots?

I'd suggest 3x 160w lined up vertically because your tank is 36" long and neither a single 170w/230w could cover that much area.

hey everyone! so im upgrading my tank from a 34 gal rsm to a 75 gal tank (36x24x20d) i definitely want to go towards the LED route and am thinking about getting the Maxspect G2-400 110w. Is that the right choice for the dimensions that i have? Also, I want to avoid shadowy spots. I would rather the whole tank be bright. Any advice or recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

You will probably need the G2-170 to avoid shadows and dark spots, but the front and back glass areas of the tank might not get enough light. You might be better off with 2 110's mounted front to back/perpendicular.

Maxspect Group Buy

Maxspect Group Buy

Does anyone know where I can find a group buy in active or a website with good price on the Maxspect? Or does anyone with experience want to put one together. I'm looking for a G2-800-170, but $729 plus shipping is a little steep for my blood.

Thanks

Growth and coloration are both okay but the back of the tank is a bit dim. I did a par reading on it and it was only around 60. I was thinking the optics would help with that problem by focusing the light more.

Noticed the fan on one of my G2-160s is starting to make noise, like a bearing is going out. Contacted Fish Street and was promised a new fan would be sent out next week. My first warranty work... we'll see how it goes.

I'm thinking of changing around the colors a bit in my blue circuits. It just hurts my eyes too much when only the blues are on, and I can't imagine that being a good thing for me long term.

No idea which way to go though.

I also just had a fan fail. It took all of 5 minutes to swap it out...
  • Remove the 8 screws attaching the plastic top
  • Remove the 3 screws affixing the fan
  • Unplug and remove the fan
  • Reverse the steps to install the new fan - Be careful not to over-tighten the screws holding the clear plastic top or it will crack.

I just finalized the purchase of two maxspect g2 160's for my 90 gallon sps dominant tank. I hope to not be disappointed. I was going to diy but would have cost just about as much and probably wouldn't have looked as nice. Scheduled for late feb early march shipment from fin's reef. Any words of wisdom for me. I haven't read the entire thread.

You will be fine and you will really enjoy the lights. You made a good choice, just watch the brightest setting and acclimate your tank to the lighting really slow. I'm still having color issues running them brightest for more than 30min. If I stay around 30min then things color in better. You will have to play around with it to see what works best for you. They are really user friendly and can be tinkered with easily. Let us know when you get them, we all enjoy pictures. Ask any questions and we will answer best we can.

any info on when the G3 models will be out? Also any chance that current owners of Maxspect will have a chance to upgrade to new dimmable models (or at least the driver)?

When I talked to Brian (I think it was him) at MACNA, he said the G3 would come out in March, at the earliest. I never asked about being able to upgrade.
