Maxspect LED owners!!!

Have any of you missed the dimming capabilities? In other words, has anyone put one of these over their tank and felt that without being able to adjust the color intensity, its either too bright, or just not the right color?

I turned my lights on for a few days and was able to peel it off easier when it was warmer.

I have just taken my Maxspect 2 110W out of the box, and am trying to peel off the so called protective coating. Tried everything, but can't seem to find an edge. I phoned up the UK distributor, and they said it was easy ? Any of you Guys any ideas how this can be peeled off any easier ? This is driving me nuts !!

I have a 110 g2 over my Solana and I feel that everything is perfect. I just received my 170 g2 for my 110g and I feel that it is fairly good. Three settings of lights, I am happy with it. So far so good, coral has been growing already!

Mine is doing great for my 110g. That will be more than good for you!

I dont want to eat up this thread with a bunch of talk about what i need but if you have a 110 gallon tank with the g2 160. Could i take it down a notch and get the cheaper g2 110? I'd save over 140 dollars and prolly 2 weeks of saving. Do you have any pictures of your 110g?

Very nice - thanks for the comparison shots.

No problemo! :spin2:

VERY NICE! Love your tank. I'm also really liking these fixtures.

Could anyone help me out on what to get for my 46g bowfront?

36in long x 21in deep x 15.5 wide (at the middle) 11.5 on the sides

Any help is appriciated!

It really depends on what kind of corals you keep in it.

If it's only LPS, then 110w would be enough, if it's SPS (especially SPS dominated), you'd better get a 160w.

It's good to have but not mandatory.

I like the way it is now, and I don't have to spend $$$$$ to get an AI or Vertex or Reeftech to get the dimming.

I'd rather (and had) spent the cash on another MP10 for better flow.

See above :)

Was there someone out there who purchased the little 60w maxspects? I was wondering how the clamp on the tank is holding up, the spread you are getting and can you keep sps in a depth of 11"? I just set up a frag tank and was thinkin maybe this would be the way to go as I love the two 160w units on the DT. Fins is right down the road and I can go pick one up this weekend.

Also regarding the 60w units, can someone comment on the over all color spectrum since they are using 10white emitters and only 6 RB/2V emmiters. Is the the overall color too warm?

I have a max spect 16" set up over my biocube. I work out of state during the week and when I left the lights were working fine but when I came home the day lights would only come on very dim to the point where you can almost not see them. The blue lights work just fine and when I tried to put white lights on at night to see them they still came on dim almost flickering. Earlier in the day I did unplug everything and plug it back in to see if this would help but it did not. Has anyone had this same problem or know anything about what to do? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

could be one white led went dead, check the little centers to see if you see a burn mark. what unit do you have?
and if it is a dead led its a simple fix

These things are not endearing themselves to me as time goes on. The light is great when they work. But I've had problems with the same unit twice now. First an LED driver module goes bad, and a fan just went out today.

What size are these fans, so I can buy a different brand? 45mm?

Correction, it's another bad driver module. Same unit, same driver. Fan is just fine. Between this dead one, and the first dead one that I hadn't gotten mailed back yet, I was able to get a good one running.

Two problems I have encountered after running two G2-160s for eight months: One fan bearing is making noise... a replacement fan was to be sent from China last week: The clock gaines 3 - 4 minutes each month on both units. The dealer in China where I purchased the units from wants $180 deposit per controller... i.e - I give them $180 for each controller and they send me two new controllers... then I send back the original controller and receive a refund of deposit when they are received.

I think I'll just live with the clock problem, and when I get the new fan look for a US source for next time.

looking into maxspect g2 230w

looking into maxspect g2 230w

Hey guys,

Been reading through this post. I have a 36"x24"x17" rimless setup and am looking into getting the Maxspect 230. Would this be overkill? I'm looking to keep a combo of lps/sps. I'm a noob with sps. I saw some of the par values and I am afraid with the 4 30w leds, that it would be too bright for my ricordia, zoos, palys etc...

Could you guys share what photoperiods are working well for your setups?

Also, have any of you guys done custom led layouts for your 230? If so, what did you do? I'm looking for a little more blue to make the corals really pop. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Want to order either Semi Led g2 170 or Cree G2 160, can anyone explain the differance and tell me which is a better fixture? My tank is 36in long x 21in deep x 15.5 wide (at the middle) 11.5 on the sides

The 230w would be perfect for a SPS/LPS mixed reef, you don't need to use optics, you can put SPS on the upper half of your tank (top 8"), and LPS on the bottom half, with softies on the bottom sand bed.

The 170w is 32" wide using 3w's only, while the 160w is 16" wide with both 3w and 15w (in your case Cree version), tho I don't really suggest folks to use the Cree version because from my experience, the PAR from my Semi LED version is just fine. Your tank is pretty similar to jpun1's so you can also consider a 230w.

How would two G2 160's work for a 75 gallon SPS dominated? Would I need optics or not?

That sounds like a perfect combination. I used optics on my 2x 160w for my 65g SPS dominated with good results.

Im trying to stay under 750, esh im trying to stay as low as possibe...i have been in contact with the guys at fishstreet and he said the semi leds burn out quicker, have a higher turn over rate. How long have u had your fixture Acro? Any burn out on you? He also was suggesting the cree version but i want opinions. If the semi led's work good then ill do that but if they are bruning out left and right, eff that. Ill stick with t5's and wait for Sol's to come down in price if thats the case. Heres the current email exchange between me and fish street. Read from the bottom up, of coarse ;)

HI Dana,

Under our replacement situation, around 5 to 8% damage rate on the semi chips will damage within a year, usually around 2 month

If your room temperature is high, it will be more faster, I think for your room temperature is very high! Its will make the LED chips become depreciation faster, I suppose using Cree chips is better

3 foot is enough on it. But I suppose you can consider another LED

Key LEd48Wide, it is more better because under the price with SPS Power bar , it is good for coral

I live in the United states of America. So the semi led's burn out quicker than normal is what im understanding? The room temp in my apartment usually is at about 68-73 C (during the winter) (During the summer i keep the apt cooler and let my tank heaters keep the tank temp right)

The Cree G2 160, would it cover my 3 foot tank as i have a brace running down the middle of the tank?

Thanks again,

Dana

HI

Can you told me where is your country?

For Semi chips is very very easy to burn, I suppose to using Cree chips is better, and can you told me for your room temperature?

thanks

>Im new to LEDs. Ive decided on Maxspect as i can afford them. I have a 46g bowfront that has a brace down the middle of the tank. I'm trying to decide what fixture to purchase and any info or professional opinion would help me out. The tank is 36 in long, 15in wide in the middle, 11 on the sides, and 21 in deep. I do have some sps but the tank isnt sps dominated at all. My questions are. Whats the differance between the cree fixtures and the semi LED fixtures? The two fixtures im trying to decide on are the semi led G2 170 and the Cree G2 160.... One of my main conserns is the G2 160 being only 16" long and covering my 36" tank...would it?

Alright heres what it comes down to for me and i want to order here soon.

The 3 units im looking at are the G2 170 Semi LED 545
G2 230 Semi LED 710
G2 170 Cree LED 790

Mainly because of the lenght of the fixture. Is Cree Worth it? NOt many ppl said wether they bought cree version or semi led. How are the 30w leds? any burn outs/replacemnts?

Me, personally im thinkin the 4 30w leds is gunna be alot on my mostly dominated lps tank. (tho i want sps) Thats why i said semi 170 or Cree 170

Im trying to order it by the 15 of March so some help on some stuff would be great.
