Maxspect LED owners!!!

At first I didnt like the look but now that everything is in place I love them. I am ****ed that one fell in the water and won't stay in one mode now...hopefully I can return it and claim it was defective.

You're claiming a defect when its your fault for the damage? Why not see if they'll repair it?

I have the same fixture and i have no issues it dropping so i don't get where where the defect is? Its returns like these that are causing warranties to be shorten.

no need to cry about it...not then end of the world...I will ask them to replace or repair and hope for the best or I'll spend 600 more bucks on something that costs 100 to make. Hope you feel better now. BTW it was not "dropped" it was on the hooks they provide and fell out of one as one side was being adjusted.

I am currently building a 240 gallon 96x24x24 setup and i have been reading a lot about these lights. Does anyone know if 4 of the 160w lights will work on my tank. At 27 inches they are too big so i figure i would stagger them. Has anyone done this yet and if so which model will look the best 10k or 16k? I plan on having everything from clams to softies to sps corals in the tank.

yes 4 are plenty

just upgraded my light from maxspect g2 170w to 27" razor 160w 16k for my 48x24x14" tank!

picture taken on A: 40%, B : 70%

they appear much brighter in real life

the coverage is awesome, i hang the light 16 - 17" above water level.

i don't understand why some people spend so much money of those expensive fixture when they can get the sleek pretty razor at much cheaper price..

I've been kind of inactive for the last two years when our first child arrived, have been letting the tank run on autopilot more or less. The blue deterioration of the LED's on my original G2 160w probably hastened an SPS crash 18 mos ago, the rest of the LPS and softies has been OK. However I think the resulting spectrum being more yellow has contributed to a lot of algae battles.

Anyway need to change out my LED's but since this is still my main light, I'd like to solder connectors to new Cree's separately so the changeout will be quick when I take the light down. I managed to procure 30 of the tiny two-pin connector plugs at a Taipei electronics stall last week - does anyone know how to attach stripped wires to these tiny plugs, and what gauge wire to use? I don't know the connector specs since they were matched visually.

I'm ready to do the soldering on the LED star end, but assume any soldering would melt these tiny connector plugs to attach wires....

I also need a little help with a G2 160. I used my for about 2 years, love it. then moved and a year later i am setting up my tank again and white 3w channel is not working.

Blue and 30 watt works great, the 3w whites will not turn on. The power supply lights up for the whites but no dice. I took apart the box and made sure nothing jiggle loose. Played with timer, nothing

Any thoughts would be very helpful??

Really want to get them up and running again

thanks

I contacted coralvue and bought a new power supply. I had sane issue on my g2-170

Hi guys,

've just nothing to do and a unused 110w Cree G2-400, unused 10/15/20watts led and some SFLEX 1200 fans. Maybe perfect for a small tank in the office. Thought it's time for a little modding.

Does anyone have an idea if I can connect the 160w/230w power supply without major problems? Cause the power supply is modular and the only difference between the 160 and the 110 version is the lack of a power module.
Does anyone have any idea how / if the 160 version is otherwise connected / wired? Can i get pictures from 160/230w Version owners?
Many thanks for your help.

So how many G2 owners are taking Coralvue up on their trade-up offer to the Razor? On the one hand, a $125 discount on a Razor seems to be undervaluing my G2 160W given it continues to serve my LPS/softie tank's needs fine day in day out the past three years. On the other hand, the Semiled blue's are basically blown out - I just replaced four with Cree XT-E's fine, but basically need to spend about $100 to replace all the remaining blues over the next year.

So really the equivalent trade-up is really about half the price of a Razor. Plus I burned my hand with the soldering iron since I suck at it, and it's probably two agonizing long evenings to solder the leads for all those replacement LED's.

I'm a bit bummed the 160W G2 gets no better trade-up than the 110W, it was not much difference new as the 170W IIRC, which gets a lot better trade-up offer. Essentially the 160W is a trade-down to 120W, while the 170W is a trade-up to 240W...

I have three G2 160w... One has never been used. I am about to pull the trigger on new LEDs for a 180 build... but can't seem to decide what to do although the discount has come at just the right time. I am disappointed with the results of the G2s over the past three years... Not getting the coral growth now that I did in the first year... clocks not accurate and need to be reset every 3 - 4 months... blue LEDs burnt out... two fan replacements and a controller replacement. Do I want to put my trust again in Maxspect?

The discount offered on the Razor may not be enough to sway my decision back to Maxspect although the Maxspect Razor and Mazarra fixtures seems to have gained a good level of respect. On the other hand, only a one year warranty is something to consider when competition at the same price point offers much higher warranty levels: BuildMyLED = 3 years, RapidLED = 18 months then $75 replacement fee for months 19 - 60, Reefbreeders = 2 years.

I have the unused G2 listed for sale on my local reef forum... I'll see where that goes. And I could keep it, replace all the LEDs on the two other G2s and go with my original plan... but what happens if another controller fails.

So to answer your questions... I am on the verge of pulling the trigger for the Maxspect deal... but still can't be secure in my decision to do so.

Trigger pulled for three RapidLED Onyx fixtures... Heavy value placed on 18 month Warranty and additional 42 months replacement for $75.
