Bummer man, did you try setting the timers? I noticed I could not control the 30w leds on mine until the timers were programmed, may be something similar but with the 3w leds on the 110 units.

I set the time & the timer. No difference. I did notice, though, that when I "turned off" both LED groups (white & blue), the lights stayed on, but the fan turned off. Fan turned back on when I changed the setting.

i have 3 g2 110w units coming for my 48x18x18 tank 75g. i plan on running them horizontal, 4" from water which puts them 20" from my sand bed most of my sps and in the upper 1/2 of my tank. how should i go about acclimating the corals to new lighting since i run 6x54w t5's tek light w/ old bulbs maybe 12 months on them currently at 12hrs actinics and 8hrs of day? i was thinking on running 2 units for now with on a shorter photo-period then adding in the other fixture after fully acclimated, and do the same with photo-period on 3rd fixture.
Will 2 of these units put out a better light output/more intensive then 6x54w t5 tek light at same height? Im would definitely assume that i would have to acclimate corals to them since my rockwork is very tall 3/4 up my tank with sps colonies 1" from top of water. i posted pics in my other post of tank below.

I generally have 4 T5s over my 75. When I was testing the new fixtures, I had them on the rails, each covering 2' of the tank. I don't think I would have needed any acclimation at all with the 110w units.

My dual 110w units showed up today. They turn on, but one refuses to respond to control inputs on the driver unit. Plug it in and it's just "on". The second works fine.

The driver works now. I had to take it apart, but fixing it was easy. My opinion is that others will see this failure as well due to the way it is put together, so I'm going to talk a bit about it.

Above is a picture of the driver unit, opened up. Take note of the white ribbon cable between the PCB on the "lid" that houses the buttons and LCD, and a small PCB that connects to the main driver PCB. The issue was with the small PCB that connects to the main driver board.

This small PCB connects to the main driver board through a small "push-pin" style connector. The issue was that the boards had come disconnected in shipping. I simply had to push them back together, restoring the connections, and the unit now functions as expected.

Due to the way this is put together, others will probably experience this due to shipping. There is very little holding those boards together. They must not do any shock & vibe testing on these things ...

Kgk, excellent post. I am sure others will find this extremely helpful if they have the same problem. I am glad it was not something major. Nevertheless Maxspect should learn from this and use some kind of self-locking connector.

are these adjustable at all with dimming of the lights ? have a 80g sps dom tank 3x2x22" and have been back and forthe whether to get the 170w or the 230, to me the 170w seems better since the 230 has 120w of it being used on 4 of the led's themself and from reading whats been said on the color of the 30w led isnt desirable anyways

The 170W gives you a white:blue/violet ratio of about 1:1 while the 230W is about 2.4:1. So if you like more blue from your LED, the 170w will be your choice. Since your tank is not that deep, I also think the 170W will penetrate well to 22".

My SPS are reacting very well to my 230W and new tips are growing since I switched to LED about 3 weeks ago.

I have had my G2 160 up and running for about a month on my new build (45 Cube - 24x24x18) and I am very happy with the build quality and light output/spread of the fixture.

Have not managed to get a hold of a PAR meter yet, but I am very confident the output is outstanding. The fan is near silent and the controller/timer works well. I have had zero issues.

I think these units are fantastic for the price. The 30w Cree's are pretty white and VERY bright, but I run without them on for the majority of the day and have them on for a short photoperiod. When I add corals I will adjust depending on how they respond, but I really like the color of all the 3w LED'S on and with just the blue/violet LED's on it is amazing.

Will be adding corals soon and will keep you posted on the results!

Jamie, nice looking tank, very clean! I saw you put some kind of DIY mesh screen on top of your tank to keep fish from jumping out. How much does the mesh screen reduce your light intensity? With a screen like that, will you recommend someone to get the 110W without the 30W LEDs or you think the screen may block out too much light? Thanks!

PM Sent on DIY Mesh - no light block issue due to the type of screen.

Regarding the 110 vs 160, the mesh screen I have is not a factor as it does not block the light. I would recommend getting the 16O if you are keeping SPS dominant tank, but the 110 may work - it depends on what you are going to keep.

Just an update, 3 weeks on mine & no issues besides the initial. All leds are running fine / none dead / non of the new units dead either. My timers are still drifting further and further apart however. Waiting for them to pass 1 minute to show the manufacturer. At around 30 seconds apart now. Minor complaint, but does need to be fixed.

- Noticed the intake filters on the power supplies were quite dirty already. Used compressed air to clean them. Watch this carefully as hot electronics reduce the life of said electronics.

Just wanted to let those of you who remembered, know that I got my faulty G1-110w fixed after shipping it back to Maxspect. I managed to snag a G2-160w and now am running it over my ELOS Mini. The customer service at Maxspect was better than I had anticipated (especially for them being overseas), and despite the shipping cost back to China, I feel like they handled the situation profesionally and quickly. I'm sure, experiences may differ, but from what I've had to go through, it was relatively hassle-free. A couple e-mails, 3-4 weeks of waiting (including my shipping time back) and everything was sorted out.

Can someone enlighten me on the situation regarding floating timers..

I got a G2 160 about 6 weeks ago and absolutely the best decision I could have made. All my heat problems are gone; even have the proof since NYC had a blast of summer this week. I have had no issues until now.

Last night I was thinking my blue lights were staying on longer but thought maybe I’m loosing my mind. I checked the thread and sure enough appears there has been some talk about it.

I regret not taking before pictures.. My corals have really responded with growth and color.. very impressed
