Maxspect LED owners!!!

Hi All,

I am getting really confused now!! If you are spending so much for this lighting unit and then replacing the LED's, why are you not building your own?

Steve

I wasn't really crazy about the mounting options (cables from ceiling, rails and clamp on glass) so I came up with my own. Used a couple of video projector mounting arms with VCR brackets. I still have to run the cables through the wall, but I'm really happy with the results. Thought I'd share.

Note: These are currently over my a frag tank that is soon to be replaced with a taller/larger custom tank from LeeMar.

I really like Your idea... very HI TECH looking :) one thing I would like to have with it - option to lower them or raise...

Yes - raising and lowering is ideal - although not a lot of manueverability; this arrangement will allow me to lower them 2" if needed.

Love your work with the mounts.
Has anyone ordered through LCKled? I'm having trouble contacting them about my order. Weeks have gone by with several emails.

Haven't thought about those VCR brackets, but they seem to fit the job perfectly!

That's a very neat idea and somehow the MS fixtures flow very well with the black steel styling of the brackets. Be sure to update with pics when you get the new tank & the wires threaded through the wall :)

It's been nearly two months since I sent the second faulty unit back and I've been sending emails every few days. I have not recieved any refund for the 2x return postage either. It sucks as I just want to finish my tank off and it's cost a small fortune for nothing.
Does anyone know how to contact them other than emails?

I want my maxpect......

I got the optics, I put on my unit, from a guy on nano-reef that was doing a group buy for semileds. The same leds in the maxspect unit. The optics were made for the semileds. But I think the semileds he ordered were a different bin letter then the semileds in the maxspect. The optics fit perfectly over the leds on the maxspect if you remove the reflector. But I removed the plastic case around the optics because I didn't want to cut the reflector. If someone tells me that the way I mounted them is not a good idea. I will probably put the plastic case back on the lenses and try and cut the holes on the reflector to fit better. Hopefully someone with a lot of led experience can let me know. Thanks

I added 30 lenses to my unit, at $1 a piece, plus $5 shipping. The mod cost me about $35. Not to bad. I think

Looks like I'll be placing another order for LED's and optics this week. If these optics seem like something that would be helpful for the Maxspects, I can get some extra.

I'm curious, how did you fit the plexiglass splash shield over the lenses? Taking a look at my unit, it looks like there is only a few mm space between the LED and the splash shield (G2-160W)

Finally got a chance to add these optics to my maxspect unit. I just added them to the outside LEDs. Maybe someone can tell me if the way I mounted them will be ok. This is my first time messing with LEDs or optics.
I tried to figure out an easy way to mount these optics. The optics came with a white plastic case around the optics. I could not add them to the LEDs without cutting the reflector. So I removed the lense from the plastic case. Does anyone know if this will effect the lense, if so by how much? I then placed the lense directly on the led The seem to sit flat on the LEDs. I added all the lenses and then placed the splash guard directly over the lense. The lenses did not seem to move when I placed the splash guard back on. So the splash guard is holding the lenses in place. It holds them fairly snug and they did not move after I had the splash guard secured. Can anyone tell me if it is alright to place the splash guard directly on the lense? Will the lense eventually melt the splash guard.? Do the lenses get hot at all? This is my first time. So any suggestions are appreciated. Here are some pics.

maybe he meant to say first the splash guard ON and then the optics.. I myself dont see this possible the first way.. I got some cree LEDs and optics.. and as soon as I get my light today I will see what are my options...

Guys, be very careful tossing optics on these fixtures without detailed measurement. You do not have a way to dim these and totally bleaching your corals is very possible. Unless you now want to hang your fixture high above the tank like an AI fixture needs to be installed, I would not recommend this mod as these fixtures grow all coral perfectly with good color as is. Even with my modest light schedule, I have SPS near the bottom of my 24" tank, growth & color is still outstanding with my g2 160w units.

I was up late last night around 3am and decided to check up on the tank and my g2-230w's 3w white LED group was mysteriously on when it was supposed to be off by 23pm. Anyone else had seen this issue?

wish I could help U... I just got my 170W G2 last night.. and no manuals.. so I figured out on my own how to set clock and timers, BUT there is one thing I really do not like about this light.. if U have power outage or disconnect the unit from power, after U plug it back in or power come back, THE WHOLE UNIT starts with all LEDs ON... I do not like it at all. it means, that after every lost of power I will have to turn it of manually. Very disappointed in that. Unless I havent found all the options? Anyone?

So I take it you have power outages monthly or something? I average maybe 1 a year, I think I can live with it turning on if the power goes out.

You're probably right, I bleached out the few acros I had towards the top of my tank in no time with a schedule that included the 30W bulbs on for 5 hours a day. I've since reduced it to 2 hours a day. I think the goal with optics is to get equivalent power to having the 30W's on, purely via using 3W bulbs with optics. The overall color with the 30W bulbs on is way too white for my taste. I wish maxpsect would make some 30W bulbs with a higher color temp.
