Maxspect LED owners!!!

Using the provided hanging kit has big upsides as you can start the lights at about 14" above the water line and then move them down over time. Probably and inch a week would be ok. This would give plenty of time for whatever you have in the tank to get use to the new light out-put.

what would you guys recommend for a 120g 60lx18wx26tall
2xG2 170s or 2xG2 230s ? i want to keep sps, lps, clams, softies.

i kinda wanted the 230s but its about a 300$ price difference between them, so are the 30w leds worth the extra 300$?

or would 3 G2 110s be better. soooo many choices.

the 170's are 35" so you would have some criss cross going on, i wouldnt use them on a tank wider then 18" had one on my 80g 3x2x22" and i didnt have enough coverage front to back, with some of the issue' sive read on the 30w leds id pass on the onne's with it, plus once you subtract say from the 160w version the 2 30w leds your done to less then the 110's

you said you wanted to have SPS and clams, and with a tank depth of 26", the G2-110's probably won't be enough. I've been following this thread when it was the other thread that got closed, and I haven't heard too many issues with the 30w LED's other than some warping of the splash guard, and I only remember one or two people complaining about it. I have a G2-160 that will be going over a 20"x20"x18" tank. I got it because I talked to a few people with a similar sized tank and they had the G2- 110 and said that if I wanted a predominantly SPS tank that I should go with the 160. Talk with Esco above, he has an Elos Mini and used to have the G2-110 and now he has the G2-160 and likes it much better. If you go with a unit that does not have the 30w LED's, then you will definitely need to add optics to your fixture in order to get good enough light penetration at the bottom of your tank to support SPS and clams.

I have to agree :) . so should i go with 2 160s? or 3 160s for full coverage? no dead spots.

That tough for me to say, 60" is kind of an in between thing. You could go with 2, or you could go with 3. If you're like myself (the kind of person who likes as much light as possible, as much water flow as possible, etc) then you should go with 3. I had my G2-160 over my 55g (48" long) for a day just to observe it, and it seemed that the light spread covered about 3", but the outer edges were pretty dim. I really depends on how you want your tank to look. If you use 2 units then the ends of the tank and a small section in the middle will be great for lower light corals, but if you want your tank to be predominantly SPS and clams then you should go with 3. If your tank was 48", then 2 would be enough, but 60" is a close call. I'm sure there is somebody else that has a 60" tank and could better answer your question, hopefully they will chime in soon. My personal opinion would be to use 3 units, but, like I said, I'm one of those that uses "the more the merrier" idea, but I do think that 2 units would work alright.

hi everyone,

i am going to be setting up a large tank

96 "x32"x27"

what is the optimal configuration to use for this size tank..i also want to hang it...

is the fixture fully dimmable and controllable? how does that work..?

does it interface to a ghl profilux at all ? is that really needed?

Hi
I'm looking at Maxspect or Key lights for my 60x24x24 tank.
Mixed corals- acros, hammers, zoos and the like.

If I go Key I can use 2 x 72cm units to almost span the tank @ 108 watts each = 216watts (bit low).
If I use Maxspect, would you recommend 2 or 3 x G2-110? giving 220w or 330w.
3 units still leaves some 4" between each fitting but a lot of $$$.

Appreciate some comments on this

cheers

I called the street-fish about key, it turned out that the key only
have one power line which means you cannot control diffenent group lights
seperately by using the timer. And I also talked to the onwer of key to confirm that. Although the owner said if you have some electrical experience,
you can easy change two 3 power lines to the timer to control the lights.

Dimming and spectrum control are nice features, but not needed. Everyone has been getting along just fine all this time without those 2 things. With the advances with LED'S you'll be able to do all sorts of cool things but you have to pay for all the cool things as well. I say keep it simple unless you have big money to drop on some lights with all the bells and whistles. You'll need at least 3 if not 4 fixtures for the tank you're talking about.

You could always start with 2 units and add the 3rd later, but 2 units looks nice and clean on a 60 inch tank and almost gets the job finished. I'd say spend the money and get the 160's if you plan to keep hard corals. Just my 2c

I know they are working on a dimmable unit and optics. But I thought they are not coming out until the end of the year.

Thats different to the info I have. Here's the reply I received from the factory when I asked about timers and control circuits-
" For K7236, there is 5 switchs( 3 row of LEDs control seperately, blue moonlight, fans). For K7224(see photo), there is 4 switchs(2 row LEDs, blue moonlight, fans)."

So it is just a box with 4 switches.. BUT still no way to control each LED group by timer. There is no timer build in.. and there is only ONE power cord to power all 4 switches at the same time.

well box, switches and a power supply but yes you are correct - no way to interface a timer without opening the box and taking a feed from the switches.
I thought you were saying that there was only one light circuit but theres several...

Wouldn't be at all difficult to interface a timer if you have some tech knowledge.

When asked about v2.1, Fish said "Our Version 2.1 is provides more stable controller than before."

whatever that means but it doesn't sound like any enhancements are included.

So, are the people who ordered these lights through the latest group buy getting the v2.1?
