Maxspect LED owners!!!

I cut an opening at the top of my canopy and made a panel consists of two pc fans. Originally I was pulling warm air from inside the canopy but I found out by flipping the panel and pushing room air over the LED fixture, I was able to run the LED almost 7C cooler

I used to run 2x39W T5 actinic (front) to add more blue to the 230W.

Because I have a 92g corner tank and my 230W can't quite reach the corners of my tank plus I wanted a little more blue to the color so I recently replaced my T5 with a DIY 24x3W LED strip. The two pc fans pushing air into the canopy proves to able to keep both units running cool.

Did you do the DIY LED strip with MaxSpect LED's. I remember somebody ordered a bunch of extra LED's in a variety of colors and said that they were going to make a DIY with the extra LED's that they weren't using.

It wasn't me but I did replace 3 of the Semiled white with Semiled blue in my Maxspect 230W and used the replaced white in this DIY strip. I ordered the rest of the LEDs from Ebay for about $1.50 each shipped. These are not CREE but I think they are bright enough. The white ones generate 120 lumens and the blue ones 90 lumens. Here is a short video of what my current lighting looks like with none of the four 30W on.

After What seemed like weeks of research into different lights I have decided on these but dunno what options and what power and how to set them up over my tank. it is 84 wide 48 deep and 36 tall. I it will be mostly LPS and soft but I would like clams and maybe a few sps. And I like that shadowed look around the edges. What fixture, how many, and in what configuration. I was thinking 3 260s hanging front to back. like I I I instead of -- -- --. And then the optics kit because it is 36 deep.

my tank is 84x60x24 but manly SPS in your case many setup and configuration could be done but you should give more detail about tank layout overflow, how many side vew.....

Gambit, your tank looks awesome! I love the rockscape and its openness. I know the actual brightness and color may be different from the picture but I think this is the color and brightness that I like the most as shown in your photo. Let us know how your corals respond to the LED.

Thank you, yes the picture is with the blue and white 3w leds on only, when I turn the 30w leds on its just too white for my taste.
Before the corals were all transfered every was growing at a very good rate. I lost 90 percent of everything with the move because one of my hammer corals died and that inturn made everything go into shock and die. All within 24 hrs.

So it will be a slow build with new corals and livestock

Glad I snagged the lens kit, really a lot of light spillage out of the tank with the stock setup. I'm seeing about 2 feet of shimmer on my floor on every side of the tank. I'll probably be installing the lenses in the next week or so, when I get a chance. Everything should be acclimated to the current light amounts by now.

Hey all. I have a 36" x 24" x 16" tank and I was wondering if the G2-160 would work fine for my tank. It's going to be mixed, with some SPS, LPS, and softies. Thanks!

you would probably need two of them, I think 1 per 24" is the standard for most of us. I did however run 1 G2-160 on my 30" tank and it did well, you could probably get away with it depending on how the aquascape and coral placement were done.

The center section of my new tank has over 16" of water, so in order to get enough light to penetrate the water optics must be used, so I've ordered a set of optics.

The idea is to put lens on the center bulbs only, and leave the remaining bulbs alone, so there're still light for the sides.

This is what it looks like when you take away the reflector sheet:

Hi I am interested to know how these Maxspect LED compare to a TEk T5 8 Bulb 5 foot unit. This unit draws 600 watts, and provides sufficient light for a 5 x 2, 30 inch 150 Gallon AGA tank. Wha size Maxspect Unit would I need to replicate this light and how many Watts would it be of LED's ?

From your avatar, seems like you're keeping mostly LPS, so you can have several choices.

The most logical choice would be 2x 110w, each of those would cover 2'x2' easily, without using optics. If you want more light you could go with 2x 160w, you can see my photos up there to see the spread, 2x 160w should be able to cover your 5'x2' tank nicely.

My tank is 40"x16" (20" height) and I'm currently using 1x 160w, but will be adding another 160w, but I'm using optics because I'm keeping SPS's.

Kbreef, you could get a 1x170w and a 1x110w or get a 1x230w and a 1x160w. The 170w and 230w version cover a 3x2" area. The 110w and 160w cover an area of 2x2".
