Maxspect LED owners!!!

I don't think they are calling it anything different. It's just 15K, instead of 16K or 10K like previously. AFAIK, nothing else (controllability, etc) has changed. Just different LED pads, with some different light arangements.

I think it has already been released overseas, but not in the US yet.

You can see they replaced two of the LED positions with 4 lower wattage LED's per spot to provide a different spectrum.

Arguably they are just about to release pads for gen 3 (which is the 15K version). The 15k has much more blues and purples in the spectrum, as well as more diversity in the white LED's they are using.

I believe you can upgrade just by replacing the pads (but I have not seen the new 15k pads on coralvue's website yte).

The blue LEDs were not failing, Maxspect uses Cree. The 15K version is Gen 2 that will be released in February.
 
Have a maxspect that has been used for ??? about 2 years. Last 4 months, saw a decline in color. Last month, many sps have lost so much color they have become nearly white in color. Some though have not lost color. Thinking it is the light. Anyone else running into this issue? Time to change out the pad? Are the 15k pads available? Is a light I gave my brother. Hoping my four maxspects I have just sitting and waiting for my build, do not run into the same issue a year and a half down the road once I finally do get my tank set up.

I have a 160w 16k unit. I've had my unit about 2 years. My corals started to fade after about 1 1/2 years. Very disappointed. Called Coralvue and they acted like they never heard of corals loosing their colors after that time. Definately no where near the pop of the corals when new. I purchased the 120* reflector and it helped some. I do like the spread of the 120* reflectors better than the 90. I will probably remove the reflector and just use the cover. I wouldn't recommend this light for long term success unless you plan to install new LED pads about every 1.5 to 2 years.
 
Someone please correct me, because I don't understand how LED's could cause color loss after 2 years...from any LED light manufacture.

They don't shift spectrum like MH or other fixtures. At worst they may loose intensity (which switching to 120deg reflectors would only make worse).

I got to believe that the color loss has to be more related to water quality changes (missing nutrients, too many of the wrong kind of nutrients, etc).
 
As with any LED, the spectrum will not change. LEDs have been said to lose about 1% intensity a year. 1% is nothing. More then likely water parameters have played a factor in corals bleaching and/or dying. I've seen tanks in person set up with the R420Rs from the first time of release and the corals still look great.
 
Funny, color loss? Blame the lights. Don't say you didn't do anything when your coral color went hay wire, there are way too many factors to loss of coloration, and lighting is just a small factor.
 
I can understand how you all could question the color loss. I can only commented on my personal experience I have the maxspect over a 65 and a Vertex over my 90. I've kept a saltwater tank over 10 years. My water parameters are fine. I only use RODI for water changes dose Alk, CA, MG. When I say loss of color I'm referring to a loss in the fluorescents. My corals look dull now under the razor. When I first turned the unit on 2 years ago the coral flourescents popped and looked great. Now they don't. My water quality hasn't been a factor. I haven't noticed as much of a change under the Vertex unit over my 90. Take it for what it is, my experience.
 
Well a number of the sps under the maxspect had zero color. They didn't die, they just lost color. Like not washed out, but I mean nearly turned white. They had extension and growth still. Very strange The other side of the tank, under a different light, the colors came back, on the same 'coral', just fragged and moved. I kept running the maxspect for a while just to see what would happen.

It was the light.
 
I live in Brazil and I'm having the same issue here with 3 Razor 120w. I installed them 12/21/2012, running them for 3 years now.

I don't see corals color popout like it did when lights were brand new and two blue leds on different lights burned out too.

It is a shame, because I really liked them much. I should probably change pads so that I don't lose my fixtures.

I'm already in contact with them. I should replace led PADs. I really like those lights, but it really seems to be less bright over time.
