Maxspect Nano

That Fish Guy posts on every single thread about them being so purple. Honestly bro, I couldn't agree more. I have the maxspect razor nano, and the purple isn't very attractive.

Well good to know. I haven't seen them turned on other than in pictures since they're mostly distributed through online retailers

The Razors actually come in three different spectrums. 8000k, 10000k and 16000k. The 16000k are provide a purple blue hue to the aquarium due to its spectrum. If you wish for a warmer light (less blue) you have the choice of the 10000k and the 8000k units or you can dial down the blue channel of the 16000k.

Here is an image of the Nano 16000k somewhere in mid day auto setting.

Sorry I cant currently find a photo of the 10000k over water but the appearance is much warmer.

Thanks for the response and pics. It does look a little purple blue to me. Any new spectrum ranges released at macna?

We know about the 10K.

The thing is is White is not an option over Purple.

We want Blue like all the other companies offer.

Just get rid of the Purple and make it Blue so I can buy a 16K.

The 10K will be worse.

We want our Corals to POP.

That can only be done with Blue.

I was all about the Razor before it came out and thought it was the greatest light ever (On Paper).

Then the Terrible Pictures came out and people started complaining.

I'm glad someone mentioned the purple shade associated with the maxspect razors. I am in the market to upgrade to LEDs and before I drop the coin on lighting for my 90g reef tank (planning eventually to have mixed corals) I want to make sure I will be pleased with the purchase.

After reading this review http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2013/6/review it appears that the maxspect provide intense light and a good spread but I cannot help but notice the purple shade in pics. Maybe they look different in person but when you look at the kessil a350 they have a welcoming blue shade that looks better. Then the a360s look kind of purple too.

I also looked at the AI hydras which looked good in reviews but In the professional review they were not near as strong as the maxspects. I also looked at the reef breeder photon 48 which seems to be a contender and a strong light albeit a bit chunky but most of the reviews are from owners that have only had the light a short time and I have read that they may not use the best led chips.

Unfortunately most of the LFS' in my area still use MH which look great but for energy and heat, I have ruled out as a contender for my setup. The only LEDs they have are typically on the bio cubes and nano reef tanks on display. Even looking at YouTube it is tough to tell.

I am going to keep checking to see if there are some other reviews or videos that better show the depth and customization ability of these lights. I did not mean to get off track with the OP, just wanted to concur with some of the responses and add a little to them.

To answer the OPs question, I do not think the maxspect nano is too much light for you - especially considering you can dial it back. It is a good light but you may need to make sure you are comfortable with the purple shade it seems to give off.

You guys all need to keep in mind how cameras can't deal well with LED's. I have a Maxspect Razor 120w 16k and don't find it purple at all. Besides that - if to your eye's it is purple, you can simply adjust the spectrum to your liking :)

Honestly any full spectrum LED light will look purple to a camera.

All the other pictures I see of other Brands like Kessil, etc. look Blue.

Razor is the one LED that stands out as Purple in all the pictures so I would not say that it is the Camera but the Light itself that is Purple.

A lot of other people here agree.

A high powered LED fixture for an 8 gallon cube? Yeah... way overkill.

I'd say go with a good PAR38 bulb - like the one from Ecoxotic or Rapid LED:

i dont find the razor purple at all, i use a 160w 16k fixure on my 48x24x14" tank. light is hung 17" above water level. many people came by to buy frags agreed with me that its not purple. i set A:70%/B:100% during its peak and its crisp white.
