Maxspect Razor Light Intensity and Timing schedule?

Hello everyone! Looking for some help as I am still new to the hobby. I recently picked up an IM Nuvo Fusion 20 gal with a 120W-16000k Maxspect Razor R420R. I see a lot of different information as far as watts/gallon, PAR, etc etc. I am looking to stock my tank mainly with softies and LPS, with SPS in the future.

What do you suggest would be an optimal timing schedule and intensity to set the white and blue bulbs initially? What's the best way to ramp up? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

While i am also a newb (tanks been up since September) I happen to have the exact same configuration of tank and light as you.

I have been ramping my light intensities up by 5% per week for the last 3 weeks. Corals all seem happy and i am getting growth on my zoas and mushrooms and LPS. No sps yet but it is on the list of things to add.

my current schedule is as follows:

08:00 am - A 00 - B 01
10:00 am - A 30 - B 35
15:00 pm - A 35 - B 60
17:00 pm - A 45 - B 75
19:00 pm - A 40 - B 70
23:30 pm - A 00 - B 01

I leave the blues on all night as i like to look in from time to time

Your light has a couple of preset programs on it already.I would use those initially to see how each schedule operates.Once you get a feel for the light and what it's capable of then you can experiment with setting it the way you prefer by adjusting the schedule to what is best for your trying to achieve. If LPS is going to be your primary stock with a few softies, then be careful not to burn them.If you are adding your light to an existing system your coral needs to adjust slowly to the new lights your adding.I wouldn't start off at more than 60% intensity for a few weeks.Channel A on your Max Spec controls white and Channel B controls the blue light.
initially when you set it up to your preference set the first TP to 0. My lights come on starting on TP 2 (7:30 AM.) Channel A , 30% and Channel B. 50%..........
On TP 3and four , increase the intensity( initially keep it below 65% till your coral gets used to the light ).So as a suggestion make TP 3 , Channel A 50% and Channel B60%. On TP 4 as a suggestion set ,all the way to 60 % for both channels TP 5 ,Channel A30%and Channel B50 % and then for TP 6 set both channels to 0.If you want a moon light set TP 6 Channel A to 0 and channel B to 1%.
Increase the intensity and TP s any way you want. The main point is to increase it slowly over a few months til you get to 70 or 80% intensity. You probably will never surpass 80% intensity on anything but SPS.
Have your light start off at 7:30 and ramp them up till 3 or 4 in the afternoon and then ramp them down and extinguish them around 9 pm. Basically you'll experiment over time and find a program you will create that you like.

Rylman, you may want to turn those blues off at night or max them at 05 because that will over stimulate the corals. blue light actually penetrates deeper so leaving them on does nothing but create a 24/hr photo schedule. But at 5 or below (at least with my light) creates more of a moon effect so it wont effect the corals. Also fish cannot close their eyes so they are forced to try and sleep through it.

I'm assuming you're leaving them on 01 but i'm just making sure. It's a mistake I made.

Thanks I have them at 1 percent overnight to simulate moonlight - been about a month of this and I haven't seen any ill effects.

Time: 8:00 9:00 11:00 14:00 18:00 22:00
Channel "A" 0 35 55 70 45 0
Channel "B" 1 65 80 100 70 1

These are my current settings. I have a mixed reef. If I remember correctly I started out with channel "A" maxing at 50 and worked up and back down ultimately ending up here. Remember to leave your settings long enough to see what the corals are going to do. Good luck just my 2 cents

thank you all for the responses so far.

I wanted to start low as well and work my way up by ramping 5% every week depending on the coral. Do you prioritize blue light and ramp up the blue intensity first and then the white? Will having max blue burn and bleach the coral? Here is a schedule that I tried to make out.

1. 1000 A:0 B:1
2. 1200 A:10 B:50
3. 1300 A:30 B:50
4. 1600 A:35 B:50
5. 2000 A:0 B:35
6. 2200 A:0 B:0

I don't really know if it is right or wrong but after I set channel "A" I then adjusted channel "B" until it was pleasing to the eye. IMO Chanel "A" is the one that needs the most caution on getting to high to fast.

Initially after I got the lights hooked up I put them on manual and played with the settings to see what I wanted to start them at and maybe end up at, took maybe 15-20 minutes of playing. Once I got that out of the way I set the program I wanted

FWIW it took me about 6 months to get to those current settings. Once I got the setting to high it was quickly apparent that the coral did not like it one bit. Every tank is different and a bit of trial and error will be needed along with patience.

This thread should be in the Lighting and Filtration forum btw..
I know you are a mod but would like to let you know it helps me out to see a cross section of information in the Newbies forum which includes lighting information.
I found your info very helpful to me even though it was in the wrong forum.
