Maxspect Razor

I was leaning towards this lighting system as well. I do like how you can pre-set photo period for daytime and nighttime. I am assuming it's like a timer. Am I correct Mike? I've been debating between the other two lighting system I was looking at:

The Razor has two preset lighting schedules or you can set your on schedule with the 6 built in timers that you can set along with the intensities of both channels.
 
This thread is the best Ive found on the Razor! Now that I have seen these awesome results i will definitely be putting the 27" 16000k on my 40B once set up! I will also post pictures!
 
I am getting a photographer friend in to take some good shots,but what I have noticed in a week. Meteor shower polyps extending twice there size, frogspawn fenlarged and coloring up, duncans showing true color not washed out brown. In fact all those dull reddish browns have gone replaced by purples and greens, all coral showing positive signs except bta who legged it under a rock and hasn't come out since - sad clowns
 
I set up my 120 16k about a week ago over one side of a 55 gallon. On the other side I have a DE 150 w/14k and 2 exotec actinics. I took some pics with my phone camera but I have had trouble uploading to the site. I definately like the razors look, very sleek. I have the color dialed in to match my set MH/LED side. It is set up on A 50% B 70% for six hours then the actinics come on at 11:00-11:00. I will try to take get the pics uploaded I think it will be a cool experiment to see the progress over time with growth and color. If your thinking of purchasing this LED my intial recommendation would be to purchase it. It seems to be a high quality product for a very competitive price against other LED's and MH's if you consider the cost of bulb replacement and cost of a quality MH set up.
 
The colors of the Razor seem to be very nice! They seem to have gotten the correct spectrum right on target the first time. What further impresses me is the PAR output compared to many other EXPENSIVE fixtures out on the market. It actually seems to put out more PAR then fixtures costing twice the price.
Due to the Razors 3 spread out pucks, your getting 2 for the price of one it seems compared to many other fixtures. I like it alot!
khawyc, Nice colors! Amazing! I love that strong blue look that does NOT wash out other red and green colors in coral tissue. Seems those Epileds LED Super blues.............................ARE THE CATS PAJAMA'S..................LOL
 
I saw the unit live in an expo that was taking place in Athens this weekend!
All i can say is that it looks soooooooooo sleek!

Seeing the 160W in person over a 39X23x20 I have the felling that 39x23 is the maximum area it can cover without having any shadow spots on the edges with an SPS useful area of maybe 30X20!

I have seen the Marineland light in person and it is not comparable to the Razor. The Marineland would be good for Fish only or lower to mid light colors. Quality and features are far superior in the Razor in IMO
 
Seems like a slick fixture. Would 3x120W or 2x160W be better on a 180?

I have (1) 160 and (2) 120's over my 180 running the length of the tank. 1" space off the edges and 1" gap between the lights.

The only thing I notice is continued growth on most of the corals. The ones that are bleached seem to be getting better. I move a couple lower in the tank and close to the edge. Not much recovery yet. Let's see your tank. Take pic. Would love to see it's progression.
 
I'm intrigued by this light fixture, but the tank it would go over is only 24x12x12. Will the 20" Razor be too overkill on a tank so shallow?
 
The only thing missing from this fixture is cyan/green/red leds for me, otherwise i would have ordered two for my 120 gallon already. They really do make a visual difference.

Has Maxspect said anything about swappable leds in this fixture, or an updated r420r with this ability coming? I would love to get this instead of investing lots of time in the DIY route again... as it would come out to the same price just about.

Maybe you can mix it up with something like an AI?

Thank you for making my decision so much easier for me. The Razor is on my wishlist.

I do have one question though. What are the benefits between 10K and 16K spectrum? Which one would be fine for beginner corals (zoas, etc...)?

Too costly, wouldn't blend well, and I feel the Razor is a far superior fixture for the same price.

I could possibly wire up a driver and a string of those "ocean coral white" leds that include red and cyan, and attach it to the fixture. Hmmmm just gave myself an idea :)
