Maxspect Razor

bayoupr,
Thanks for chiming in! So your getting more par out of one fixture then the other?? I only will have one unit. So maybe I need to narrow this down to which will give me more par at a 14K look? I am assuming this would be the 10K??
My SPS tank is 24 inches deep. So maybe the 10K would be the better choice. Any pics?

As for par, I don't know because I have no meter to check this. Never had in the past either. My lights are mounted 13" above the top of my tank which is 24" deep. I had the 16,000k running with two AI SOL blues side by side for about three weeks now and have replaced the AI's last week with the 10,000k Razor. The side my 16,000k has been running on my corals all seem to be doing great. The other side with the 10,000k looks OK also after a week of running. I am not home right now (currently offshore) but if memory serves me correctly, the 16000k is running at 80% on one channel and 50% on the other. My 10000k is running 80% on one channel and 35% on the other. The higher % channels being the more blue channel. I will get some pictures posted when I get in next week Wednesday. That's about all I can offer now other than there is a color difference from the AI & the Razor. Also I have a mixed reef, some SPS, LPS and Softies.

i was about to order a vega but really its the UV that i want and i would have to order prob 2 custom pucks (when available) to get it the way i would like. well with controller im gonna be right at the $700 range for ONE fixture. at that price i would just get a radion.

so now im really digging the razor. got the UV warm whites prob make up for not having reds, and dont care about green yet. Im thinking the 27" version might be perfect for a 90g cube. since the side to side spread wouldnt be an issue, how do you think the front to back spread would look if the tank is 30" deep ???

bayoupr,
Thank you for all the great info! One more question: How do you like the Razor compared to the AI Sols you had ? Obviously you like it more. What are the visual differences you see?
Thanks again!

mxman311,
Nice pics and Thank you for posting! Man, that sucker looks bright!!! You need to get some corals in there now!!!!LOL

The Razor seems to give my corals a little more pop in color. I like the fact that there slimline and have a stylish look. Like the built in controller and I really don't need the thunderstorm, rainy day or cloud effects that the AI's have (never used these features anyway). Hopefully in the future these can be linkable for one controller (for those running multible units) and maybe have a rolling cloud effect like some of the expensive brands have, but then the price on these might go up like the others with these options. As is, I like this light alot for the price and eye appeal.

What exactly is your tank dimensions? My 24 front to back has more than enough coverage.

currently a 20x20 cube, but probably going with a 30x30" 90g cube. So if im gonna buy one i rather it be the 160w version and not purchase the smaller one for my current cube. the ai nano is enough for it right now.

Yes meshwheel its a 46 bow front. I haven't touched the tank other than top offs for the last 2 years. For some reason i got attacked by the reef bug again after 2 years so i did what any reefer does and spent all my money on equipment. Got new power heads with controller, a HOB refugium with light, and this new razor led light. The rock work unfortunately had to change today because i knocked it down trying to move things around. Got rid of my damsels and scrubbed tank after draining water and hosing off algee covered rocks. Put rock work back in and now its cycle time again and start buying the corals i have always wanted! Ps never move a rock once u move one then u have to move them all and it sucks

mxman,
LOL! Shame on you! You should have know better! The ole "PULL ONE ROCK OUT, WATCH EM ALL FALL" trick!!! LOL................(I know it's frustrating and sucks!, been there done that):blown:
I have already built a tri-level platform useing egg crate and PVC pipe for my new tank. I just have to decide whether I want to use a wave box or stream powerheads! Or both!
I think I am going to order the Razor as soon as they come back in stock:bounce2:
Does Mike have any new pics for us?:lolspin:

A question for you Razor owners...

I'm considering a pair of the 20" units for my 4' 120g. Because of the high vaulted ceiling in my home I want to use the leg kit.

Is there a way to attach the two units together so I don't have to use the legs on the center brace?

Looking at the kits I'm not sure I would like the legs in the center of the tank and would like a clean look to the setup

Edit: Wow, I guess after doing the search I didn't realize I wasn't on the last page with others asking the same question...

Anyone have pictures of a 27 on a 4ft tank? I know the corners will definitely be shaded, but is it an actual option for a mixed reef?
