Maxspect Razor

I have a 75g 4' tank right now its mixed reef but would love to get into some sps and lps, what size should I look into, from what i've read these lights seem to be working out very well and am now interested in purchasing them instead of my DIY t5 idea.

Probably 2 20.5" models if you want to go heavy sps and want full light coverage. 1 27" if you want to place sps only towards the center and dont mind the ends being a little shaded.

A question for you Razor owners...

I'm considering a pair of the 20" units for my 4' 120g. Because of the high vaulted ceiling in my home I want to use the leg kit.

Is there a way to attach the two units together so I don't have to use the legs on the center brace?

Looking at the kits I'm not sure I would like the legs in the center of the tank and would like a clean look to the setup

Edit: Wow, I guess after doing the search I didn't realize I wasn't on the last page with others asking the same question...

One should be able to insert rods on the side of the unit where the legs go thru and join them this way. I have asked Chris from Coralvue if there is hardware meant for this. Otherwise, DIY should be fairly simple. The only beef I have with the legs is that you cannot raise or lower the unit. You're almost better off hanging the light from some bracket. Even the Mazzara kits should work for this purpose...

Mike,
WOW! Had a great day at church and now a awesome coral pic. to top it off! Looks happy and polyp extension looks great! Do the corals get that lit up look at the end of the day with the LED's like they do with the halides??
Maybe I am not explaining that right. You know, that kinda "UV BLASTED, TAN LOOK" if you know what I mean.
Mike, how much cooler is it around your tank now? Is it huge compared to when you had the 400 watt halide?
Thank you for the pic! Looks great!

Mike, here's mine. Still working on the stand. The stand is 47 inches tall!!!! The tank is a nice eye level when entering our new family room! And then I have 3 bars stools that are going to seat around it. At the base of the tank will be a 10 inch wide granite bar that will go all the way around the tank. The tank is 36x18x24 tall. Center overflow with 2 returns either in each back corner or corners next to the overflow. I got this tank brand new for 150.00 on ebay!!! With brand new Pan World pump and a huge Eheim canister filter whci I sold for 100.00! I love the tank.

PS Not trying to hi-jack your thread! Just pretty excited! I think the Razor would be sweet over my tank!

Nice tank mesh and cool build. The razor is exact what you are going to want for that set up or any other set up because the razor rocks!

mxman311,
Hey, Thank you! Yep, pretty excited. I wanted to start a build thread but at this stage in the game I have no idea how long it's going to take me.lol!! Money is a big issue right now, so it going to take a back seat to a few other projects. But I sneak in a few hours on it each week anyway.....................lol!!
Getting ready to plumb it too. Maybe I should start a build thread. Just waiting on Mike to give me the thumbs up on the lights...................lol

That is one sleek tank! You're not hijacking at all! In fact I would love to see your tank progress on this thread. The razor would definitely look awesome over that tank.

Not so sure what you mean by "tan look". The light can definitely get very bright. My temperature is now constant at 79. And it's definitely way cooler around the tank itself. I hope I answered your questions.

Mesh this is the light you want unless you want a storm mode function that you will use a couple of times then forget about. God I wish I had a good camera to show you pics of mine

Thank you Mike,
Thanks for the compliment on the tank. It's a nice tank. I was lucky to have gotten it for that price! Well, looks like I am getting them now...................LOL!
Has your anemone swelled even larger with the LED's ? Your tank looks fabulous! Everything looks very healthy too.
I was going to put 2 250 watt halides over my tank! Man, that Razor would save me tons in electricity and it would look so stealthy too!

mxman,
I like it! I don't need all that storm mode stuff either. I really think the Razor is a well thought out light with the correct spectrum. Those super blues are the key I think.
I have heard nothing but good things so far about this light. Please post some more pics if you can. They dont have to be perfect!

So has anybody been able to get any par readings on this fixture yet? And not just directly under the fixture but side to side and front to back readings. Also I have a custom sized tank and was curious to see if one fixture would work for me (maybe the 160 W version). My tank dimensions are 36"L x 30"W x 24"T. My main tank inhabitant is a large ritteri or carpet. I might have a couple of other sps or lps or softies on the edges not sure yet. But the main inhabitant being the anemone. I have been going back and forth with the kessil a350w but its not controllable. So anybody have any experience with this light and a 30" deep tank? Also what corals are you keeping on the outer edges? Thanks in advance for the responses.

Madean,
Yes, go to the Coralvue thread at the very bottom of the forums page. I think that where I saw the PAR numbers. They are very very high! Thats why I am considering this fixture. Because the PAR numbers are high enough for SPS corals.
Your front to back is pretty deep. I have seen the spread of this fixture. You will probably need two. One in front, and one in back.

I agree, you'll likely need 2 160w... The 160w is perfect for your 36" width... But a depth of 30" is a lot to ask out of this.
