Maxspect Razor

"Ozarksreef" other than the Seriatopora, what other SPS are you keeping, and can you tell me about their overall experience in adapting to the Razor.
Im specifically interested in coloration, polyp extension, and encrustation.

Also, could you (if you have not already) post equipment specifications on this system?

Thank you!

Hey Dart,

I introduced a variety of acropora and montipora around October of this year. I'm really pleased with coloration under these lights and have shared some examples below. Growth is a bit slower than I'd like to see, but I have the light skewed to a very blue spectrum. I suspect if I tweaked up the white channel more, I'd get faster growth. Polyp extension is great on the pink lemonade and on the A. milleporas. Very little PE on the Pearlberry, but not likely caused by the lighting. I have a mild case of redbugs that I haven't got around to treating.

My system is fairly basic - an MP-40 for flow, Quiet One 3000 for return, and an SRO XP1000 for skimming. I run phosban and carbon 24/7 and dose BRS 2-part using a LMIII.

Here's the ORA Pearlberry and the Tyree Pink Lemonade in the background:

Here's a shot of an A. tort - not sure if it's oregon or cali

Nice tank Zibba, thanks for the pics.

Thanks for the compliment, paul89! It's nice to finally get some light over this tank so I can start stocking :)

Zibba,
Thanks for the pics,nice setup.
What are your first impressions colorwise compared to a T5 setup? how about disco effect, did moving up the fixture higher improve the LED overlap and minimize the disco ball?
Lastly,do you hear any high pitched noise?
Have ordered two 160W for my 180 gal that i should receive in Jan so latest batch info is welcome!

Cheers

Thanks Lonestarcep! I ran an 6-bulb ATI Powermodule over a 4' 90-gallon tank in the past, but I've never run T-5s over this tank so it's hard to give a real comparison. And, I certainly can't comment on growth or anything yet since it's only been up for 5-days. With that said, I'm really impressed with the ramp-up/ramp-down feature and flexibility of this light. I enjoy the shimmer of the LEDs vs. T5s, however, neither compare to the full spectrum color and shimmer I get over my 100g Envision with a 250W Radium and VHO SuperActinics. The Envision and the ADA are plumbed together so I anticipate doing some color/growth comparisons down the road.

What's cool about the Razor is that the tank never really looks the exact same because the light is ramping and changing slightly. Hopefully the corals will like this feature. If not, I'll adjust accordingly.

I did notice a little bit of disco-ball effect when the light was lower -- but only on the rocks that were closest to the surface. To be honest, I didn't really pay attention to whether this effect became less pronounced when I raised the light, but I havn't really noticed it -- so I guess that says something. I will say this though, LEDs have a "fast shimmer" comared to halides, so don't expect the exact same look and feel from LEDs if you're moving from halides.

Finally, no noise at all coming from the unit. Dead silent. I think two of these will look great over a standard 6' 180.

Beautiful OzarksReef! :)

Zibba,awesome feedback,thanks!
FYI I have a 4x 3 x 2 180 setup so should be plenty of coverage with the. Two razors.
Will definitely uplod a few pics when I am setup.

Cheers!

You're welcome. And, those are much better dimensions! :) You'll love it. Can't wait to see pictures.

Thanks for the specifications and pictures! Much appreciated. I believe I am going with the 27" 16K fixture when I set up my new tank.

thanks again.

I am looking at going with a 5' x 30"W x 26"D tank, just want to know whether people with larger tanks with these think 2 160W units would be enough to spread the whole tank. I have heard people stating that the light isn't that bright. Anyone have this experience. Also I see alot of pictures of blue and red sps. If anyone has picks of green or orange lps corals as these always really pop with other leds. Just wondering if this is the same with this light.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Craig

I ordered a 120w 16k this morning for my Nuvo 38. many of the corals in this tank will be frags from my bigger tank that has a sunpower with 3 Blue+, 1 Actinic, 1 Purple+ and 1 Coral+.

1 fixture can do upto 48x24xyour 26 depth is ok. 2 should work which will cover the 5 foot length. This fixture is generally not as bright unless you add more white. I like a bluer look. I have it set at 25% more blue than white on my settings when ramping. if you go too high for the brightness look you risk bleaching corals. Most people make this mistake because its not as bright as MH. Start off low around 30% white and blues and gradually go up. Good Luck

Ozarksreef your SPS look awsome under your Razor.
What is your setting right now, because i have 2 razor on my 90 gallons for 2 month and i am a little bit worry to go over 80% channel A and 100% channel B.

What is the best setting to get the best color whitout bleaching the SPS.

can figure out what to get 10K or 16? I like to see fish colors also for 8 hours per day and not just black shadows moving in the tank under blue :headwalls::headwalls:

The 16 isn't all that blue it still has plenty of reds, whites and warm white. Most people with the 16k still run the blue channel higher than the white.

Thanks - mine currently peaks at 80% & 100%. I haven't really had any concerns with bleaching - just prefer the bluer look at that setting. If you want to go higher, you could dial channel A up 5% a week until you reach 100%. Best of luck to you!

This light has a beautiful spectrum! even at lower percentages. Im very impressed! I will slowly be ramping the daylight A channel, but for now im taking it slow until I figure out the percentage that overall looks the best and makes the corals look amazing. My hands are still tied if I want it more blue or less blue...but that grain of salt comes with LEDs! soo happy I don't have to change/buy bulbs to get the color I want especially at $20 dollars a pop roughly.

Has anyone been able to use the mounting system for this fixture on a Nuvo 38G aquarium? The tank is JUST under the 24" minimum requirement for the mounts according to MaxSpect's website.

Ill let you know when I get it, I think it will just fit. Hope so anyway.

There is a guy in the nano forum with a 120w and a Nuvo 16 but I don't know if he has tried the legs. I considered all the options and felt that the 120w razor was the best bang for my buck on the Nuvo 38. Coralvue said mine won't show up for two weeks.

Would one you guys/ladies mind taking some measurements for me please? I need to know the dimensions of the led pads as well as the space between them.

Thanks
Dustin
