Maxspect Razor

xaflatoonx, I would definitely go for 1x 300W.

I have 130cm which equals to 4.2ft tank with one central brace. And I have had Maxspect 300W 16000K for year now. I have been very happy about it, running it with 75%/100% power, you can actually use all that power that lamp provides. I feel that 2x 120W would be bit stretching in terms of amount of light for 4ft tank. I positioned the lamp so that there is no led cluster directly above the brace, thus there is no any visible shadow from the brace. Actually I wouldn' believe in shadow even with cluster directly above the lamp, there is so much light blasting down from other clusters.

During this year I lost 1 fan from the lamp, but got spare free from my favorite LFS (in Germany). Also I have understood that you can change led clusters, power components and even led screen of the lamp I saw in one of the best LFS in Germany. Thus I wouldn't worry about replacements. Actually, I would think it otherway around. 2 x 120W lamps would mean two power sources meaning exactly 2x probability that you will encounter failure in at least one of the powersources...

After looking your image I have to add that my brace is about 1/2 in width of your brace, but mine is not transparent. I would be that it looks pretty much the same as in my tank.

Pic of the top of my tank attached.

I currently have two Orbit marine USA leds that you see at the top going across.

Tough call. There is a slight gap between the two sets of 3 pucks on the 300 watt fixture but the brace will block some light. I would go for the 300w to get the added puck per side.

That answers your question, but if you plan to grow acros I would plan for a different configuration that placed pucks in front of the corals rather than directly overhead like the Razor does. Think of a stage with actors standing on the stage and a single row of spotlights overhead. Lots of bad shadowing. The Razor can certainly color up the top of acros but to get good color on the front you'll need some supplemental lighting.

You may want to consider using strip LED lights, like those from BML, rather than a single Razor. Just my opinion.

If you're not growing colored sticks then the Razor looks awesome and really makes the colors pop.

here is a pick of a single 300W over a 150 gallon with a divider.

hmm... since my brace is transparent - i shouldnt be blocking much from the two LED pucks that are close to center. That pic helps. Thank you

I just had to turn these down. I've read no less than 5 times the light acclimation process yet I had these ramped up to 80 - 100b for 3 hours a day on all my new corals. The frogspawn is bleaching almost looks translucent. Look to have killed a plate coral, that along with peppermint shrimp (little bastard is banned to the cube). Torch is showing same signs as the the frog. The zoa's are spreading like wildfire, however.

For new razor users I am now using the following schedule. I'll update results next month.

2:00: 0-0
11:30 0-9
4:00 40-60
5:30 60-40
9:00 15-50
11:00 0-0

I have been running this light over my 40g cube since last April. I am using it with the legs, so 8" above the water. I am wondering what is the highest % I should run this light in the middle of my lighting schedule? Should I eventually get to 100%, or max out lower like 80-85%? Everything seems happy, but I am having algae issues. Could the light. be contributing to this? I keep mostly softies. Curious what you think.

I have been running 300w razor on my 300l tank since April 2014.
I'm not so happy about colours as I mostly have sps corals.
Green, yellow and blue/purple looks acceptable while white ...eg strawberry became Brown!
water parameters are all ok so I suppose it is mainly related to razor.
I have 11 h period with 4 hours at A65 and B90 that is my max power set.
Anyone has proved by pics settings to suggest for well coloured sps under razor?

......if not I'm going to change this with radion or mitras....

I switched to T5, but I was able to color up a few Acros with the Razors overhead. My issue with the razors, or any single strip of LED pucks, is coverage. I supplemented with BML LED strips and then switched to T5 for the main lighting.

These are all under the Razor, 90 blue, 80 white

Better than this though is EvolutionZ:

He now supplements with T5, which helps a lot in my opinion.

6 hours at max setting, but a slow ramp up in the morning so near full was more like 8 hours. My ramp down in the evening was fast, whites full dim in an hour, all off an hour after that. Morning was blues on a 6am, ramp to full blue by 10am, then whites ramp to full from 10am till 2PM and all full from 2PM to 8PM.

full = 80 white, 90 blue

Interesting schedule - I think I may just give that a try.

I am running very similar and have seen good growth and colour on purple bonsai, pink birds nest and plating montipora.
