Maxspect's Gyre System

I like the look of it, but the mixed reviews on quality and noise have been keeping me from buying it, and im not certain what it would do to my sandbed, if I went barebottom I would probably be seriously considering it.

That's what I've wondered as well too ...I watched one video and they dropped food in to shown the flow and stuff flew around everywhere ! I liked it as it's new and different but sometimes new isn't always better !

I love my Gyre 150. It can be a little noisy at the higher settings but mine is only at 40% and moves a ton of water.

i found this through a redirect here , is this a product that does away with powerheads ? anyone have experience with these ?looks like a cool unit

Just do a search in the forum title "Gyre 150". A ton of stuff comes up on the system. Some people even put them head to head vs the MP40s. Some seem to swear by them and the customer service at Coralvue others aren't totally sold.

I have the 130 model in a BB system, hands down solid buy. If you don't mind a cable and motor in the water. it does defiantly get water moving.

I've owned the 150 for my display and 130 for my frag and no longer have either. I found them to be noisy and too delicate. I had issues with snails getting inside the cages and ripping a part the propellers. However, I know people that have them and love them.

I have had a 150 for about 6 months now. It does move a lot of water I have mine set at 40% constant flow. I ran it by itself for 3 months and it did what it is suppose to do but the flow did not seem chaotic enough for me. I put my old sicce voyager powerheads on the back wall on opposite ends pulsing every 30 seconds and I seem to get the type of flow I like.

They are bit more complicated to take apart and clean than other powerheads that I have had but if one takes there time it is not to bad after the first time. Just my 2 cents.

Make sure to ignore reviews prior to around February 2015. The original gyre had many issues. I have both original and the newer model. The newer model even feels a bit more sturdy but it does still have the original paddle wheels that are due to be changed in the next couple months to a more rugged version that's already on the 130 model. Next year there will be a bigger model released as well. I'm hoping for a nano version that doesn't involve capping half a 130.

Male sure to check out that long thread linked to above by Ron. It has many questions answered. It still gets some negative reviews even after February 2015 but mostly due to the weaker blades still being sent out on the 150 model.

I have the new blades for my 130 as I got them at MACNA and wow. I have tried to break them with snails and such and they have stood up to everything thus far. It is what they should have included in the first place BUT nice to know they saw the feedback and made some changes.

I also do not have noise issues though I do have one purchased in April of this year so it has the newer mount that they did to quiet these down.

I have the 150, and run it on 30% at .4 second pulse mode. Pretty quiet, and I had to re-adjust the cage because if I keep it at 3" below the surface, it agitates the surface, and splashes water over my internal coast to coast overflow. I rotated the guard a little bit so the water goes out, and not really up, though it does softly agitate the surface.

The plan is to get a 2nd gyre 150 for the other side, and down the line have them controlled by the apex, but that's a ways down the line, just from a sheer cost standpoint.

Not really going to find too many negative reviews on them. People seem to love them!

Really too vested in Jebao powerheads to move, but I thought about it before wiring up the Jebaos to the APEX.
