I have been trying to lower my salinity, I have now changed out 5 gallons of tank saltwater, for ro/di if I change out anymore water is this going to hurt live rock or damsels?

What is your salinity now? What level are you shooting for?
Too low and you'll experience die off which will compromise your water parameters.

after a 5 gallon swap, it is now 1.026 it was 1.030 before this all happened in about 4 hours

Depends on what's in the tank. I would try to lower the salinity as slowly as possible...

If you change the salinity too fast it might put too much stress on the fish.

What salinity are you aiming for? 1.026 is about sea water salinity.

Lowering the salinity is not a problem at all for fish, you can do it at one time, I have done this many times before. The problem you run into is RAISING the salinity, that has to be done slowly so the fish can osmoregulate

SHrimp and other crustaceans need time to adjust; it's like acclimation, only worse.

Do not trust a hydrometer for fine adjustment. Use a refractometer: the expense of one is less than the expense of a tank crash.

As stated b4 inverts will not apprecite sudden changes in salinity. Fish on the other hand will pretty much be OK with a change in salinity as long as your decresing, but if your incresing salinity do so slowly that is really stressful to fish.

Ummm, why wouldn't you trust a hydrometer?

edit: I saw hydrometer, my brain said refractometer, I really think I need to finish my coffee....nevermind my post.
