May I introduce my 20 Long - I think it is complete!

Thanks everyone!

Snapped some pictures today and thought I would share. They include new zoos/polythoas, my mini-carpet anenome, my garden variety fuzzy shroom, and one of my new purple yuma shrooms.

And yes, that's my lawnmower blenny, Louie peeking up behind the zoos, who is now stalking me. He nipped my hand when I was feeding the other day and now I think prefers human flesh over fish food ;).

Updated pics

More pics from me as everything was looking especially happy after the water change.

The first pic is actually polyps that I didn't give much hope to. It was actually a piece of rock that had broken off a chunk of daisy polyps and I just wedged it in between some other zoos and forgot about it. A few months later and these larger polyps poked out. That's the beauty of this hobby .. almost like a grab bag as sometimes you never know what you're going to get.

I also included a pic of one of my favorite mushrooms I got from Blane. It has an undertone of a rich purple color and the colorful zoos around it really seem to frame it well.

Another pic here is one of my 'grapes' that I got from Logical.

Finally, the last pic includes some oranges that I spotted today. Pictures do not do these guys justice. The orange centers are a bright, nearly glowing color. They look to be multiplying quickly too (yay!).

I have a bunch coming from Anthony and Bryan is putting together a custom order for me too. Frankly, I am out of room. Thank God I have that 150 downstairs!

Hope you all have a great holiday season!

Amazing Set up Can you help

Amazing Set up Can you help

Jeff,
I am thinking about starting up a Nano Reef, I have a Nova 35 acrylic tank, and a 110 Oceanic which will be my fish only tank.
It has been about 15 yrs since I had a reef tank. Originally I had a 90 gal Mini Reef tank, wet wet filter Great for that time) filled with Hawaiian Rock (wish I still had). So much has change since then had a all fish tank after (110, 55 and a 42 hex all at the same time), been out of the hobby for about 4/5 yrs and going to dive back in.

I think you have a great Tank. I can only hope I can get half of what you have. I am asking for help ( any one else who can give advise) on setting up my Nova 35. My main question is Heat and Proper Lighting. I have been told that using MH I would need to get a chiller (never had with original system), and that I should also get a Kalk CO2 Reactor to help balance tank (would eliminate dosing and ph problems). How do you control you temperature, reed that the temperature in you tank is about 82 ish, also your thought about dosing. I am also interested in finding out best place and where you bought everything you have in you tank, what do you think it would cost to start from scratch as I am. Any advise or help would be appreciated greatly. If you prefer me to email you direct please let me know how

Re: Amazing Set up Can you help

I'd be happy to help. I'll try to break these down into questions so it's easier to read:

1) Heat

I swear by Ebo Jager heaters (along with thousands of other folks). They are dependable and work very well. I have one 100 watt Ebo in my Aquafuge so it stays out of my display tank. It is currenty set at approximately 79 degrees. That temp flucuates between 78 to a night time low, to 80.5 or so for a daytime high. I contribute a large part of my tank's health to minimal temp flucuations.

2) Proper Lighting (also your comment about someone saying that with MH you would need a chiller)

What do you want to keep? If you don't plan on having colorful and more delicate SPS's or the colorful clams, then you do not need halides. I've found the Coralife all in one PC fixtures work and look beautiful. If you do want to keep the SPS's and clams, then halides are great. Unless you have them very close to the water, or completely enclosed over the tank, you do not need a chiller. I don't have a chiller at all (although I do have an open top tank). Just make sure you have adequate ventilation with halides.

3) Dosing

I dose B-Ionic (2 parts) versus putting an expensive reactor on a nano-reef. To me that is just not cost effective. B-Ionic is reasonably priced and easy to dose. I also add food stuffs of different types but that is for another discussion.

4) Best places to buy, etc

Do your best to support your LFS first. It's always good to keep local businesses afloat. Aside from that, try to find a club in the area where you can trade or buy frags cheap. It will save you a ton of money. Finally, look at the sponsores here at Reef Central. I have ordered from 75% of them and they all are fantastic.

Also, go check out nano-reef.com. They are a fantastic resource for smaller reef tanks.

I hope that helps! Thanks for the compliments and feel free to shoot me a PM is you have any other questions I can help with.

Be sure and post pics as you go! :)

Thank you Frank! I appreciate your kind words.

I should be thanking you for keeping our streets safe. Law enforcement and teachers. Two of the most important and vital professions in this country and grossly underpaid IMO.

Happy holidays!

Thanks guys :). I snapped a quick picture as I walked into the study the other day to show you what it looks like lately. As you can see I have focused on very colorful and varied zoo variants. While doing this I have been getting the basement finished for the new 150 gallon In-Wall tank that is going to go in so my 20 long is very happy and content being in a holding pattern right now. I simply cannot add any more corals or I will be out of room for sure!

Keep nano'ing!

I'll snap some more pics soon with my crapola digital camera.

By the way, your location and occupation sounds fascinating to me. Where is that in Mexico?

Sabin: Im located about 2 hours form the border, just below Arizona, in fact I have a house in Tucson, where I go very other weekend to buy groceries, visit LFS, everything...

The zoos I have in my avatar I got them diving in the Sea of Cortez...

Forgot, my occupation: its a family operated biz With 2 Pig Farms(pain in the butt) 2 Japanese Restaurants, and a big ranch with cattle and lots of desert sheep, mule deer and coues deer...

Wheres my updated full tank shoot?:bounce2:
