May I introduce my 20 Long - I think it is complete!

Great idea. I remember when Jeff started up this tank over at NR. His tank was absolutely gorgeous, and I drooled over his purple rics that I still haven't been able to find.

He took this tank down due to costs of setting up his 150. He has pics of his setup somewhere on this board now, though I forget where.

Just look in his profile and look for his recent posts :)

Hey guys! Hope everyone's nano's are doing great! As Tam said, I no longer have my 20 Long as I finally succumbed to the urge to upgrade. I moved to a 150 In-Wall. With our two kids now fully engaged in sports and other activities, my required work related travel and the periodic family vacations, I wanted something easy to take care of. So far I have been hugely successful. I have some killer corals that I am adding to the 150 this weekend so new pics should be added to the thread next week.

The thread and pictures are here:

I have learned a few things moving from a 20 gallon to a 150 gallon:

a) A nano is easier. It's easier to do a water change, it's easier to aquascape, etc.

b) You always want bigger, bigger, BIGGER! I am now planning my 240 gallon. I am hoping I can pull it off before the wife kicks me out of the house when she catches wind of this ;).

Thanks everyone! The 20 long was taken down and replaced with a 150 gallon tank that was built-in in my basement (which my family lovingly refers to as 'The Fish Room'). I am battling with majano anenomes at present but am starting to turn the tide. Ultimately I plan to upgrade to a 250 gallon but still in the planning stages at the moment.

I am contemplating another run at a Nano in my office since I have been doing a bit of checking and the new nano tanks are MUCH more inclusive and better designed than the nano tanks of old. I like the JBJ stuff so that may be in my future. I do have several of the corals that were in my 20 in the 150 alive and well.

Oh I used an old Canon point and shoot digital camera (PowerShot S10) for most of the shots in thsi thread. I have since moved to a Canon DSLR (30D).

Happy reefing!

Nuisance Anemone Control Quick Fix

Nuisance Anemone Control Quick Fix

Sure fire way to whack the anemones is to do the following:

What you need a syringe of some sort or something like it to direct a fine stream of liquid to a target. I used child's liquid oral medicine dosage syringe (get at local drug store). A true syringe with a needle would be ideal but us non-junkies don't have access to that kind fo equipment ; )

Okay then get some Kent Marine liquid calcium and put it in the syringe and then ever so gently get as close as you can and squeeze about 1/2cc of liquid calcium in or near the mouth of the anemone.

They will immediately retract when exposed to the liquid calcium but you will see them MELT after being hit. Repeat the applications as necessary.

Extra calcium is typically a good thing but too much can throw your Ph out of whack so monitor your levels especially if it is a small tank.

Worked great for me, supplemented my calcium levels and whacked the anemones.

If you try it, let me know how it works for you. I have done this in two of my tanks and was completely relieved of nuances anemones until I added more rock (i.e. hidden anemones).

BEWARE!!!, if you have an anemone you want to keep in the tank, keep clear and turn off all powerheads when you do this.

Do not dilute the liquid calcium.

I just want to say that your 20L was one of my original inspirations for getting into reef keeping. I even remember when it was tank of the month on nano-reef, back when they still had an official contest.
