Ummmm, did you not see page 1??? ;)

I'm a cheap arse and my calcium levels are starting to get low. I've read (the other) Randy's article about DIY 2-part. The only thing is that the quantities are just waaaay too much for the little tank I have. If folks want this session to be practical, and since it is about dosing, I'd be all for making some 2-part and splitting costs or whatever. I just don't have the need or space for 50# of DOW flake. Just an idea...

I'm not sure if we could locate a 50# bag of DOW flake... I know Ace in Bearden was the last known place to carry it and have long since sold out...

Joel.... I have a partial bottle of 2 Little Fishes Part A ( Ca ) and a small amount of Part B that you can have if you want. I spilled most of the B and swiched to Seachem Aquavitro because the LFS's didn't carry the other.

Many people with smaller tanks choose to use Premade additives like Janie has... For a larger system, it is hardly economical... Right now, I am only using my Calcium Reactor... I have a LiterMeter and need to set it up on my 150 when I get the time...

I use the two part stuff from Bulk Reef Supply... The club has an account with them, so you can get an additional discount if you send them your e mail and request to be added to the club account... Also, CR carries some of their stuff if you just want to try it out for a bit...

Its not going to be as cheap as buying Dow Flake, but it is also free of any "extras"...

i did, but like a month ago!

so janie's wanting a head count...

how about a fresh "who's coming and bringing what".

and is there an address? i know she's practically in GA, but don't remember seeing an address...:)

Just so you know, I'll be requesting for you to bring those stuffed Jalps to every meeting... ;)

Though others might not want to stand next to me... Oh, and it won't be because of my smelly boots... :worried:

When I made 2 part, I used turbo calcium and baking soda..... worked well.

I am coming, not sure what to bring, maybe me and my amazing personality??? I will stop and pick somethin up. But where is this address????

Baking soda, about $10 for 15 lbs. at Sam's. Bake it to "boil" off the CO2 and water and it'll keep your pH up. Anhydrous CaCl (or Dow Flake, different animal) is more difficult to come by and I'd be careful using the "modern" stuff (although Randy's starting to believe the bromide increase may not be as detrimental as originally thought). I have lots on hand but go through it pretty quick too (just under a pound a week).

You can get Tetra's CaCl which is supposedly more "pure". Their closest distribution center is Memphis, but I doubt they'd sell you less than a pallet full. I tried awhile back to buy a bag or two of MgCl from the distribution center in Cleveland, TN, but they never called me back.

If you're really in need, battery acid and limestone can produce some pretty pure CaCl but isn't good for your carbon footprint:)

Me thinks this sounds like a good idea!
