Mazzei Injector Protein Skimmer

Mine has the built in one way valve. I haven't taken it out, but I did notice it produced a bit more air when I disconnected the air hose from the John guest fitting I had...

I wouldnt be too worried about voiding the warranty, its not like theres much that can go wrong with these. How to remove it with out cutting the unit is beyond me though.,

I bought mine 8 to 10 yrs ago, so I couldn't tell you what model it is, just a 3/4" powered my a March AC-4C-MD. Works fabulous. The skimmer is a knock off of the Marine Technical Concepts Power Pro.

I was'nt sure how to tell what model I had either. Then I looked at it closely and it has a 684 molded onto it. Check it out, maybe yours has something somilar.

The Iwaki 70RLT is an excellent pump rated at 1500 gph. The maximum flow rate for the 684 and the 784 is around 900 gph. A Mag 9.5 or a Mag 7 is just fine. The injectors are made to run on low PSI. Everybody thinks using a high psi pump is better but not nessarily. It only stresses out the pump. Not matter what size pump is being used, the 684 will only allow a maximum of 900 gph thru the injector. Hope this helps out.

Andrew

Thank you very much. I knew that they are low pressure eductors, just did'nt know their flow rates. I was thinking on running (2) 684's with the rlt70. This should use the full potential of that pump.

If I could redo my skimmer, I think I'd put the input a little lower down the pipe...
And a bigger diamter pipe, and pump and bigger mazzei and bigger tank too... =)

Qeustion to everybody =)

Can Mazzei injector be installed vertical rather than horizontal. I saw the lifereef version (VS3) and all of them is installed horizontally. Any idea?

don't know why they couldn't.

you would just have to pump up higher and have some 90's to get it fit up right

Hmmmm, i was just kinda wondering why lifereef design their skimmers that way. I thought it could effect the injector not to function properly. Maybe when i get my 684 injector i'll install the injector upward and see if it works.....we'll see in the feature =)

I was thinking of doing it vertical as well to save space. The reason I didn't was just I didnt want any extra elbows that could potentialy restrict flow.

littleprince,
Did you get your tank up and running to hook up that skimmer?
I have a fairly dirty system here if you wanted to try it out for a day or two to see how it works out.

Might as well take you up on that offer. Can't get my tank drilled till next monday, and theres nothing left to skim in that little tub.
PM you on aquariumpros....

Ok, got the skimmer running on one of Dmans systems. Not exactly sure which one, or if they were all connected, all the plumbing would give me a headache if I actualy followed where they all went.

Wasn't working as well as I hoped initialy, but hopefully it'll do some skimming for him...
Guess we'll see in a couple days if it was worth it, or if I should go back to the drawing board...

littleprince - LOL you get pics?

dmans - you gonna keep us posted on it?

my mazzei should arive soon...I HOPE...and i am not sure when my DIY stuff fro the riser and collection cup will be here so i can't get mine up and running :(

I forgot to bring my camera coz I was in a rush, nothing spectacular though. Dman said he'd keep me updated.
When I go pick up the skimmer I'll be sure to bring my camera.

Skimmers not performing that well. I'd just go with the Life reef VS3 design. I'm not sure why, but its really on and off in terms of bubble production. The skimmate its producing right now is fairly light. I think its a combination nof the bubbles not going as far down as I wanted, and too much turbulance at the surface. Having the input down low aimed up probaly would've helped that.

I may build a model 2....

So what was you total cost on this skimmer ? I am curious why you used the ball valves on either side of the mazzei - instead of directly connecting it? And final measurements?

i am guessing that as u suggested the turbulence might be an issue in that small of a reaction tube facing sideways.

wonder why the bubble production is on and off thought?

my skimmer is going to be like a becket skimmer (w/ the box) but w/ a mazzei sticking up out of the box instead of the becket. it will be like a MyReef Creations MR-1 w/ a mazzei.

'i have a mag 500, 700, and 950 so i can try out all of them w/ this injector :D

Hey, good luck with that. I'm in the process right now. Minor/major setback being that my routers collet snapped one of the fingers and snapped my cutter off at the base.

Luckily there is a 30 day no questions asked return policy on the router and the cutter is lifetime warranty.

If I knew what the skimmer looks like that you are trying to emulate I might have some input but I don't so I can't. Any Pics? Let's do some online troubleshooting.
