Mazzei Injector Protein Skimmer

I don't think my Mazzei on the Mag would be powerful enough to inject that way. On the other hand, I'm not 100% sure its not the Mag and not the Mazzei either...

yeah i bought a mag 500 for the skimmer but might end up using a mag 700 instead...heck maybe an extra mag 950 i have too ;)

i'm not TOTALLY sure but i will check. also you have to remember the head from 90's and the height of placement. the skimmer will be a littel remote so i might need the extra UMPH

Did you have a chance to experiment with the pumps powering the 584. Curious as to which pump performed the best.

I think I'd like to try a 700, or something that can create a little more pressure. I also have a feeling I have a small leak in my piping somewhere injecting air into the tubing before the Mazzei, because when I close the air going into the Mazzei I'm still getting bubbles coming out... That might be contributing to the recent problems.

i don't have the piping yet....should be here tuesday...so i will have the skimmer up by the weekend i HOPE.

i will try the 500 to begin w/ for a week or more then the 700, then back to the 500 to see after it broke in

Hi Andrew:

I am going to convert a DIY beckett skimmer to a venturi using a Mazzei. the pump currently in use is a Mag-Drive 18.

I would like to downgrade the pump to something less powerful, probably a Mag 7 or 9.5 to cut down on heat and electricity usage.

Any suggestions on the Mazzei I should use.

The skimmer uses 6" tubing for the main body and and a 4' tube for the secondary riser. the total height is around 22".

Whatever Mazzei I use I would like to ensure the skimmer body is completely milky white with foam.

Thanks for your time.

Guys,

I am an OEM wholesaler for Mazzei and have a good understanding of the pumps and injectors. The two best injectors are the 784 Kynar which can handle up too 650 gph and the 585 1/2 or 3/4, which can handle 500 gph.

I had a really long post detailing what I learned, but I just lost it, so I'll post the summary instead.

I've learned that the more pump you have the more air you can let in the Mazzei and have good bubble production. Ie with Dmans larger pump we could have the Mazzei at full air intake. With my Mag 5 I need to turn the air way down. Therefore I hypothesize a smaller, maybe 384 Mazzei would be best for a Mag 5 because it would allow the pump to run with full air intake...

Full air with Dmans larger pump produces similar bubble size, but a thicker denser (ie more) bubbles...

An Iwaki or something like that. It was throttled down a lot, so a Mag 9 throttled a bit, or maybe a 7 we thought would work real well...

Mazzei venturi skimmer

Mazzei venturi skimmer

This isn't a DIY, but it uses a 484 mazzei for injection. I just started it up yesterday and so far it's been ok, hopefully it will break in within the next week, but we'll have to see. It also uses these quickseal grommets that are pretty neat.

This is after 24 hrs.

Rufio, Its hard to tell from that one pic, but from the top it looks like thats how I had my skimmer set before. I found that if I put an air valve on the air intake and turned it down it give me much smaller bubbles, less turbulance on the surface and better foam. Perhaps you should try something like that
