So i have a mccosker in my QT for about a week now. I did have about .25ppm of ammonia so i dosed some amquel. I went out of town for the night and i find my wrasses berly staing upright and keeps swinging sideways. I put some misys in there and doesent even flinched for them. Which he would go crazy for before i left town. I did about 50% water change and im dosing amquel again as i type. What should i do? Should i just take him out and put him in the DT?

I wouldn't put it in the Dt because it's in QT for a reason. Do what you're doing. I don't think one night alone will cause it to take a turn for the worse. I travel a good bit and left my flasher in QT for a week without waterchanges.

Sounds similar to the radiant wrasse I just got. Heavy breathing and resting in the corner of the tank, mine actually has popeye, so seems like it had an infection. I transferred to the DT, I was afraid the QT was not providing good enough conditions, (probably a bad move, but if I did nothing he was certainly going to die in the QT)

He was still breathing at 4, and then I went out of the room for 20 mins and no sign of him now, not sure if he died or is burrowed under the sand.

Where'd you get the wrasse?

I got mine thru liveaquaria. He swang around for a little bit earlier. Thru in some misys and he ate them so thats a good sign. He is staying in the corner of the tank right now which he has always gone to so hopefully he is better

Flashers take a while to acclimate IME. I have two flashers in QT that I purchased from DD 2.5 weeks ago (P. mccoskeri and P. cyaneus), and it took them well over a week before they were out and about swimming and not overly skittish. In fact, they hid behind their PVC "homes" for 3-4 days after receipt. They're doing great and eating like pigs now.

Never move a sick fish to the DT. Its very common to assume that a DT is an uncomfortable place for fish and they will do better in the DT. A QT is quiet, no mayhem, bullies, or food competitors.

Using an ammonia neutralizer (Amquel, et al) is fine in an emergency; but shouldn't be necessary in a QT. These products should never be used with copper. The key to a successful QT is to plan ahead. You never know when you may need your QT to become a HT. I'm guessing that your problem is ammonia based; a QT should be ammonia free and .25ppm ammonia could easily have hurt the delicate wrasse. Keeping a sponge for a HOB filter in the sump of your DT will allow you to instantly cycle a QT at any time. Also, Bio-Spira can establish a bio-filter in no time; assuming you provide good media. An Aqua clear HOB filter is great for either approach. Some folks use the bacteria seeded sponge and the Bio-Spira. If I didn't already have a QT routine that works, that's what I'd do.

I must say that I haven't had a lot of luck with flasher wrasses. Have tried two, both Carpenters, and both did fine for a week or two and then got listless and died. Still not sure why. Not sure I'm going to go for a third.

Well i checked on him this morning and he had popeye on one of his eyes. It looked pretty bad. Then i get home tonight to find it dead. So sucks for me :(
