McCoskers MIA

So I transferred my Mccoskers from QT to DT. He hung out in the bottom corner for a day then the top for a day. Found a hiding spot in the back behind some LR. He hasn't been spotted for 4 full days now. Are these fish prone to hiding like this? I haven't seen him at feedings? Any ideas of what he might be up to or should I start looking for another one?

I'd look for another one, do you have a lid? I'd look around the tank.

I have had some wrasses be quite reclusive when they first got into the DT. I have given up on a couple and they show back up one day. Once they get in the rock they can hide quite well.

D you have the top of the tank covered? They are notorious jumpers. If it didn't jump it has likely hidden itself in the sand, they usually come out if not harassed within a week.

Tank has a glass lid, no way to jump out. Lid is only open for feedings. I've got two o clowns, they hung out with him when he was at the top of the tank, a royal gramma who left him alone as long as he wasn't near the royals cave entrance, but would chase Him away when he got close To it

my McCoskers are always swimming all over the tank but i think they hid for a few days at first. maybe yours is just hiding. i'd wait a couple more days and see if he comes out.

they're massively good escape artists. i lost a carpenter's a while back to the ether. very sad because he was one of my favorite fish. huge personality.

is your tank reef ready? might be worth check overflows, sump, filter socks (if you run them). these guys will find even the smallest of holes to use as an escape hatch.

They do tend to be extremely good at hiding. When they bury in the live rock for the night they are difficult to find even with a flashlight. I would give him a chance. Also they are very peaceful fish so just check if someone is bullying because that will send them right into hiding.

You might consider an acclimation box for future wrasse additions. Helps the new fish get used to the DT without risk of aggression. Also helps the aquarist by keeping the new fish in sight.

I agree with the acclimation box. since I started using one, especially with wrasses, tank introduction has gone much smoother.

If its a wrasse they will dive into the sand possibly for the first 2 days or more.

Only certain species, e.g. Halichoeres. Paracheilinus sp. like the McCosker's mentioned here retreat to the rockwork, not the sandbed.
