Media Chamber in sump?

Is it possible to create a media chamber in a sump so that water is drained onto the media from the tank?

My sump will have 3 chambers:

Drain&media chamber ->return-> refugium

I have something like that in my sump. My return water comes in from my tank via two 1" tubes with filter socks attached to the ends. It then runs through some meachanical filter media (foam pads) and then throught the carbon before moving through the rest of the sump. I pull out the carbon bags weekly and rinse them to be sure that they keep receiving good water flow. I replace the carbon every three weeks. Seems to work pretty good.

whatever you do dont use foam or you will have nitrate problems....bad ones. If you dont have a spot for it pre-made then dont stick it in the tubes or you will have a flood.

My recommendation is to get a phosreactor and in there put you media (rewa-phos and when needed chemi-pure). Attach this to your sump and problem solved.

Yes, but I think a Phosban reactor would do the trick just as well, and can be added to just about any sump layout. Pretty cheap too.
