Hello Everyone, Thanks for the wonderful support of our last MARS meeting. I know that I was pulled off topic several times, but people had more questions then I expected. My plan was to cover a bit on lighting and refugiums next month.

As for a new meeting place, we have looked several times and to get a room that can accommodate upwards of 100 people and offer food and not charge to the space, has been impossible to find. I know the board would welcome any suggestions for a new meeting place as long as it offered the same , if not better accommodations as Round Table does now.

So if we found a place in Davis, West Sac, Woodland, Natomas, Downtown, would the people on the East edge be willing to alter between locations since we have trucked to their honey hole for so long? Cuz I'll find one. Seriously. Dare me. I'm that kid.

I realize that I am only one person, but if the meeting moves close to Davis I won't be able to attend regularly. It takes me 1 1/2 hours each way now. Any more and I won't be able to stay awake on my way home.

BTW - I don't know if Giovanni would be the ideal place for the meeting. The glass enclosed room seems to be their Sports room (because of the TV). I doubt they are willing to give up that room on a Friday night.

I'm not sure if it is a better location either, but I know the owner and could inquire if we are serious about this.

I personally would love to see the meeting moved a little closer to the middle of Sacramento (i.e. Arden, Watt & 50, Downtown). I have to either kick around work for 2 hours or head home and sit in traffic all the way to Elk Grove and then back up to Folsom.

I will definitely hit up those of you who are in Davis to figure out some kind of carpool situation. Since this would be my first meeting, I could offer my truck to drive for my first time. I have a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500

I think roundtable is fine
It is called Marine Aquarists Roundtable of Sacramento :)

Yet roundtable is in folsom

I'm one of the guys that travels a bit of distance to get to the meetings, and I don't mind at all! It seems to be working for most (I now it will NEVER be perfect for all, no matter where we meet), so why tamper with it. We have carpools worked from where we come and I hope others are as fortunate. I also agree that Roundtable does a great job so I say keep it right where it is!!!!! That's my vote.

and the debate goes on...though if you read this post, as well as those related to it, you will see that it appears as though the "club" (as related to it's officers and governing body) aren't really interested in finding another venue...regardless of what it's members suggest...

that said, the distance to Folsom is the main reason I cannot personally attend more meetings... I would love it if these meetings could actually take place in Sacramento...but I realize that it might be harder to find a location in that vacinity...though not impossible.

Being a board member, I have personally gone around and looked for a better location. In my history with the club, I have never heard a board member say they would never change the location. If we could find a place that can seat at least 100 people, have a projection screen, offer food and be separate from the general public, I would think the board would entertain a move. I am just one member of the board, so what I say is not final.

I do think RoundTable has done a wonderful job for us. I am not sure where we would be if it was not for our current location. Many of you may not remember the meetings at the Carrows off Watt Ave.

If someone has a suggestion, please let me know and I will be more the happy to personally check it out.

it was nice seeing everyone at the last meeting as its been awhile for me.

the topic of the club outgrowing/finding a new venue has come up before and some good points were made:

Mars venue thread 1

Mars venue thread 2

bruce, how can anyone forget those meetings at Carrows ;). talk about getting cozy!

Tim -

dont' forget that back then, there was a very legitimate reason for trying to find new venue. Our club did outgrow the Roundtable's meeting room. I remember when you had to be there by 6:30/6:45 or you would be standing. The back of the room was standing room only. In the last couple of meetings, it hasn't been nearly as bad as back then.
