Meeting feedback

Tim -

dont' forget that back then, there was a very legitimate reason for trying to find new venue. Our club did outgrow the Roundtable's meeting room. I remember when you had to be there by 6:30/6:45 or you would be standing. The back of the room was standing room only. In the last couple of meetings, it hasn't been nearly as bad as back then.

Minh

last couple meeting i have gone too have been pretty packed.

Plus there would be alot more people there if it were at a better location in my opinion

I do agree RTP has done a very good job!

I'm pretty confident that there would be many more people there if the location was more reasonable. On the other hand...people like me who want to learn more from the experienced guys will drive out of there way (Way out of our way). I'll probably still go, but I dread thinking about the drive before every meeting.

I will volunteer to spend a massive amount of my time to find a more central location, IF the board will have a conversation and agree to the concept.

MARS BOD, it's up to you guys to have a conversation...

I'll give a day or two in November to scouting every exit on 80 between Madison and Davis. Who can do Cap City Fwy?

Better still, if you live near 80, report on anything within 1 mile of the freeway at your exit that serves food, has a dedicated room and can handle 100 reef dorks or more...

Now that sounds like a plan? One of the criteria is that the location have a projection system. That's most likely going to be a deal breaker for most venues. I would suggest the club use some of that raffle money to buy a projector and portable screen for the occasions they need to present something. $1100 would be sufficient to get both. I know I've bought nearly that much in Raffle tickets alone! (at least that would be my wifes assessment if asked)

As a board member I don't think we are opposed to a venu change, but nothing has been proposed that meets the criteria and is free for the club.

Norton, the club does own a projector, just not a screen.

Again, I'll suggest that the board meet and back the "concept" of moving its location to a more central area. If the criteria is that someone must suggest a perfect location, and have all the details worked out before you guys will discuss it then:

1. The timing probably will not work out, as you'll have to meet and vote, which could take up to a month

2. Once you do vote, depending on the timing, the facility may or may not be still available.

I'm not trying to come of like a jerk, so please take it for what it is worth, but I sounds like a fair number of dues paying members would like something more central and the board needs to either back the concept, or come out saying that you're not interested. Tell us where the leadership stands and we'll do the work of finding a solution.

If you can put quantitative criteria together when can work to find a solution that meets the criteria.

I just would like it said for the record that we need a lot more than a space for people once a month. We need the space GUARANTEED NO MATTER WHAT every third friday. We need a place where they don't mind us bringing in massive amounts of saltwater and equipment. The place needs to be very quiet and completely segregated from all other customers. I also feel that if we are going to move it we need to make sure to pick a place that is centrally located. Moving it to Davis, Elk Grove, Woodland ect ect is just causing the same problem we have now but for the other side of the city. IMO the place needs to be close to 50 or 80 no further out than Madison Ave on 80 Sunrise Blvd on 50, and anywhere in the Arden Buisness 80, Natomas area, or downtown would work as well. Please also keep in mind that there is going to be a MASSIVE road work project on I-5 making it and 99 a nightmare from next spring to roughly november so we should attempt to steer clear of those places as well. Last but not least, the place has to be free!!!!! Before you set out I would talk to Karl about how difficult it was to find a venue for a one time Frag swap. He might be able to aid you in a where to start type of sense.

Best of Luck Guys!!!

I think the criteria for location should be:

1. Close to the freeway, for access
2a. Interstate 80 (between Harbor/West Sac and Madison or
2b. I5 (between San Juan and Fruitridge
2c. 99/Bus 80 (between Fruitridge and I80)
2d. Highway 50 (between I80 and Sunrise
3. Easily seats 100+ (if that is our current size) more is better
4. Food service (pizza is preferable)
5. Separate room
6. Can accommodate a Friday night monthly meeting (willing to move to a different Friday if need be?)
7. other?

I can search I5 and 99/Bus 80... Who can take 50?

i agree with many points herein:

1) just thankful to be associated with a great club
2) needs to be near major freeway (I5-80-99-50)
3) close to where I5-80-99-50 all intersect

seems as though the "must have" criteria would be:

1) must hold 75+
2) must be separate from other activities within the building

seems as though the "would really be cool" criteria would be:

1) projection screen
2) food
3) drinks

i wouldnt' expect this would happen over night and a transition period (should it be considered) is to be expected.

I think it has to be the way you are discussing not wanting to do Pete. There would have to be a place found that meets a lot of PITA criteria first. Then the board would meet to discuss it which would most likely take a month or two at least. There seems to be hostility from people like the board is against you. As far as I know, no one on the board lives real close to Round Table. It just is a place that works real well for now. I know you are fairly new but this is a topic that many have looked into several times. Its just a hard thing to accomplish and will be done with extreme caution. I suggest you go and start looking for a great place that would work for the masses and we proceed from there. This is an important decision and much like a reef tank... nothing good happens really fast :) If it does feel that people are hesitant to move, it is most likely the fact that there is a lot of comfort in knowing the place we have works and to move we need to be POSITIVE the new place will allow us the same freedom.

you guys beat me to it :)

paul, i agree. as a woodlander i would not want to see it come out to woodland, davis, or elk grove. that just shifts things to the opposite extreme. it also needs to be available on a set night, day of the month, year round. don't want to be flip-flopping.

I must admit I don't understand why it must be that way, please explain.

There would have to be a place found that meets a lot of PITA criteria first.

Which is why we need to understand what the criteria is.

There seems to be hostility from people like the board is against you.

I'm not sure who you are suggesting is being hostile. Could you please let me know what you meant? I'm offering to help!

I know you are fairly new but this is a topic that many have looked into several times.

I thought I heard that the last time this was looked into was 2 years ago. Can you tell us what the criteria was last time, and was it an active search, or a passive search?

Cheers

Not sure why you need the boards approval to go hunting for a place?
Are you afraid you'll find a place and we'll have to commit to that place that day or week?

If you guys find a place that's perfect and majority of members want it.. I don't think the board is going to ignore it?
You seem to be implying this?

No, but if you guys don't want to move then we probably shouldn't bother looking, right?

That's really what I'm asking, "IF we could find a good place, would we move?"

I'm starting to feel really satisfied with buying a home in a crappy neighborhood in rancho cordova. I've belonged to 2 other clubs and this discusion happens with any club. With RC airplanes you have to go to the field to fly and somebody always wanted the rc airport moved to their area. The long range tactical club can only happen at the 1000 yard range, the guys from the bay drive in the night before. If you want it bad enough you make it happen. The title was meeting feedback. IMHO the meeting was great , and I'll go to the next one with the hope of learning something new and making new friends. and I like pizza too.

The board is there to carry out the wishes of the membership as a whole, and keep the club running with all the mundane stuff behind the scenes.

It's not the "boards club", it's yours. We are just here to serve you, the members.

If the members as a whole, want to move, I really don't see the board putting a stop to it.
Granted I'm just one person on the board, but that's how I view it, as I think many others do as well.
