Meeting Idea's

1st meeting should just be a meet & greet then. I'm up with that.

Let's make it simple then. How about this as the agenda:
  1. Curtis' softies tank tour
  2. Exchange gifts - each one bring something (maybe worth $15) that get's traded randomly with someone else (e.g. coral, additive, fish food, product, etc.)
  3. Raffle - we can contact local, online, or product makers for giveaways
  4. Food and drinks

How about it?
 
Gift exchange is a cool idea but if I randomly get a coral I don't have the equipment to handle or a additive I don't use then it's a waste of that item.

Raffle? What are we raising money for? We aren't a club just friends getting together to talk reefs.

Yes it would be nice to put a structured formal club together but I think it's too soon for that. Lets get a few get together's under our belt and see how things mesh. Sure discussion for what our future vision is fine just don't jump the gun.

Darn here I'd written a long eloquent post :D and Chuck summed it up better while I was typing.
Don't think there's anything wrong with discussing our future but I think we need to remember it takes baby steps to get there. Then again it's nice to have a goal in mind.
 
How long has this been a club forum without actually being a club. Baby steps is fine, but if your alls progression takes this long, seems like there needs to be more organization. My 2 cents have been added. I will leave it at that.

Not to raise money. LOL. We might be able to contact some shops or vendors to donate gift/discount cards or sample products, and then we can raffle it out to those who attended.

The Cliff notes
This forum was the CVRC forum. Last March Ron announced the forum would be closed (since he owned it) and everything would move to the CVRC forum...note no input from members. :D
Those of us that valued RC got a little vocal about this decision :lol: and the RC mods allowed us to rename the forum and remain here. After that we sorta agreed we were a "club" in name only since all we wanted was to keep hanging out here. Now it looks like we're ready to become a real club again. That won't happen over night.
 
"Loose association" is a stretch.
We've hardly met one another.
What has been accomplished other that keeping a chat line open.
I mean this is fine and I enjoy certain aspects of this because I was able to help someone last week.
However,this is a far cry from what I would call a club.

Another issue:
How on earth could we exchange gifts? You haven't even seen the 14 boxes of reef supplies that I already have. What do you want?

A good acronym for that is LAC. That's funny.

So, are we back to having a few beers and talking about reefs? :beer:

Curtis, what about people bringing food and drinks. Have a place to serve or would this create too much hassle?

We have a large kitchen beside the living room.
I know you've been here but I can't remember if you've been upstairs. We've always stayed in the basement looking at the tank.
As soon as we get some sort of head count, Lisa was trying to get some stuff together.
Anyone is welcome to bring anything they want.
 
I don't feel that you guys need to prepare anything since you are already loaning out the house for a day. Since your fine with the idea of food how about closer to the meeting we start a new thread and people can post what they want to bring. BTW nothing would be required in my eye, just a nice thing to do. Covered dish, finger food, bottle of Bourbon, etc. ;)

No one said anything about secret ballots, the issue is controlling who can vote. This in my mind isn't to single people out that we don't like. If we put up a vote here on the boards any RC member can vote. A guy living in Turkey could place a vote. Also, people that visit the boards and have no interest of ever attending a meeting could be deciding the person that will help lead the club. This isn't directed at you or anyone specific.

After all the posts today, I think it just reinforces to me the need for a meeting to discuss these issues face to face.
 
It may come down to actually attending a meeting and dropping your vote into a box.
