I have a 90 gallon tank with a overflow almost in the center of the back of the tank. My question is from the inlet going in to the tannk instead of having the inlet coming in to brake the surface, i was going to replumb it to come into the tank go down the side of the tank vertically and then along the bottom ending up caping the end. I was going to drill small holes in the vertical piece and then bigger holes in the horizontal piece. has anyone ever tried this? Does this sound good? all or any info would be greatly appreciated! thanx in advance!

You could try it but i would make sure you have a couple holes very near the surface for a siphon break. Also as the pipe gets covered in coraline your flow will become restricted.Just a couple thoughts...

Considering you will have additional 90 degree elbows inserted in the return line to make the bends. You will loose on head pressure. Therefore, you will be restricting the flow and it would not gain any additional water movement. Also, with the holes drilled there is no set place in which the water will escape with purpose. It may all come out the furthest end or slowly leak through all the holes. Just a little tip... Never try to use your return stream of flow as a means of water movement. It is futile to attempt it. You need random or laminar flow dependant upon the type of livestock you have in your tank. Using the return line as means to agitate the waters surface is about all you need to do with your setup.
I know it is more money for in tank powerheads such as Tunzes or Vortechs. However, you are more likely to have success with these devices added than not having them at all.
