I've finally set up my dream tank and got my first fish for the qt. a melanurus wrasse. Shaky on qt process. Understand varying practices. I also understand some fish Are more sensitive to meds like said fish.

Suggestions please

Current plan is six weeks of observation unless convinced otherwise.

Thanks

Add in a nice round of Tank Transfer method to be sure ich isnt sneaking in and id say your good.Theres some stickies in the fish disease section that Detail Proper QT procedures and TTM.

Main issue here is ich can be present without symptoms in an otherwise healthy fish, Copper or hyposalinity can also work but wrasses are as you said known to be sensitive to copper, and Hypo salinity can be tricky to execute properly and theres a chance it outright may not effect ich depending on the strain. id say TTM is your best bet.

so yeah, 6 weeks of observation followed by TTM would be ok. But the more experienced reefers here will tell you that 72 days of QT for anything wet(in addition to TTM in the case of fish.) is considered optimal.

For fish, if you do tank transfer first, total observation time including tank transfer, totaling six weeks is fine.

Nice to know, Plan on getting a Flame cardinal or Mate for my Flamehawk soon so im sure theyll appreciate hitting the DT a month earlier. as will I

Good choice on a fish, I love my Melanurus, kids call him Mr. Wrasse.

When QT'ing him, make sure you have some extra sand and 2 tupperware's you can use. That way at night or when nervous, he'll have a place to sleep/hide. Get rid of the sand between transfers and just use new sand.
