Melanurus Wrasse

I have one of these guys on the way, when he arrives at the LFS i am going to try him out with anther wrasse or two and probably bring another home

The problem is i put all my time into choosing the Melanurus, and don't know who to bring home with him!

I read that a lot of people match up a flasher, and a fairy. The only flasher i have researched much about is the carpenter.

Can anyone else recommend their favorite docile wrasse thats a nice opposite of the Melanurus as far as color and shape

(there is almost 40 other wrasse coming in with mine, so suggest it and chances are i will be able to see how they do together)

Or could be a Coris aygula; just a tiny guy at 2 feet in length.

Don't rely on common names!

I had to remove my melanarus from my 75 because he was too aggressive towards my other wrasses. He hassled a blue side until it found a hole and jumped. (The blue side was in the tank first.) he also stressed a Lubbock's to death before I could remove him, and never let a Carpenter's out of the rock. I understand a lot of others have success with them and fairies or flashers, but I did not. Mine now lives in a 40 with a cinnamon clown and neon psuedochromis.

Do you think if he did then it would show up almost immediately? My plan was to move a few wrasse's into his tank at the LFS (one at a time obviously) to make sure they both are docile

And i was considering the Mystery Wrasse but their availability seems quite low and i don't believe the LFS has one comming in

I have a melanarus in QT with a Cirrhilabrus lubbocki and Paracheilius lineopunctatus and they all ignore each other. At feeding time they often bolt for the same piece of mysis with no aggression or contact.

My melanurus is fine in my 40 breeder, and he even has another wrasse of his species in the tank with him (the radiant wrasse) and I've had no issues. If anything the only fish he picks on is the peppermint hogfish, who will gladly give it right back, and makes for some fun displays in the tank. I wouldn't recommend another wrasse of the same species. Maybe try a pair of flashers?
