Melanurus wrasse

Have one in qt. first week swimming around great and eating. Now he has took refuge to a dish with sand. He's been buried for 4 days. Do I still feed the tank? He doesn't ever come out lights on.

I suggest never disturbing a wrasse that has gone into the sand. If they die, they would come out.

Agreed. And indeed he is alive. Hes in a transparent dish and i can see him move every once in a while. I was hoping you would chime in. Any ideas on feeding?

Would feed very sparingly while the wrasse is in the sand. If he is hungry he will smell the food in the water and come out and eat.

Also, be aware that many wrasses are "jet lagged" in that their biological clock is not synchronized to your schedule. Initially, I feed PE mysis so the smell in the water induces reemergence.

Pretty much what everyone else is saying, Leavem. Had a melanurus wrasse that hid for a week before getting his schedule down and making daily appearances. and ive heard of some being buried for up to 3 when initially introduced.

I just had the exact same thing happen with the melanarus wrasse I purchased. He did not come out for a week. Then he slowly started staying out all night. After about 3 weeks he was out sunrise to sunset. Just give him time. When he's ready he'll come out.
