Then how would I meet my goal of changing avatars every day for 365 days in a row? :D

Well what day are you on NOW? :( Just so I know when 365 days are up.

Few months ago a bad storm here uprooted a lot of centenarian huge trees which are abundant in this area. They fell on the power lines of course. We did not have power for 3 days straight.

At least once a year we have had at least a major power outage lasting longer than 24 hours so a generator is a must. I was thinking a natural gas one. They automatically switch on in case of a power loss and do not make a lot of noise.

On a different note I would like to know from Marc if he got the lumenbright mini wide. The canopy on the new fish tank is all but 12" tall and I think the wides would be a good solution. I do not think I can fit the large lumenbrights for sure and the regular mini may not spread light properly. The tank is 72x24x24, if I mount the reflectors on the roof of the canopy I should have 6" of clearance. I was thinking 3 reflectors with 3 250W. Should it be ok? or should I go with a 400W in the center and 250W on the sides.

I decided to build the sump. I am going Monday to buy the 3/8 4'x8' acrylic sheet. i think I am going to ask to cut the top, bottom side panels and baffles hoping that their cutting is going to be more precise than mine.

I found a place on the Internet that sells Weldon 4 and does not charge an arm and a leg for shipping. I got qt of Weldon 4 ($18.90), a oz tube of Weldon 16 ($6.75) , plus some other stuff (needle applicators etc.) and UPS ground shipping was $9. I think it is a good price and they did not charge Haz-Mat shipping charges as other online retailers do on Weldon

Welcome back Claudio. Getting a generator is really a no-brainer, unless you don't mind buying all new livestock because you decided to roll the dice and trust that nothing can ever possibly go wrong. I don't feel that safe, and pretty much try to back up everything with extra supplies to be able to resolve the problem myself when necessary.

I ordered the Mini Wide reflector (not pendant) by accident, and when I opened the box, I called Mike at ReefSpecialty immediately explaining my error, how he should have read my mind instead of accepting that I knew how to order what I actually want... He told me to just ship it back and he'd send me the pendant. I think it went out Thursday afternoon, so it should arrive this week. Seeing the reflector itself, it didn't seem 'wide' to me. Mike swears they are different; maybe I can find a Mini in my area to compare it against. Stay tuned.

Having the acrylic place do the cuts can be a perk, if they are accurate. Some companies get it close, but if you pay enough, they'll be perfectly happy to get it down to the millimeter. Be sure to link us so we can see how your project comes out. Good deal on not having to pay the hazmat fee.

Thanks for sending that thunderstorm our way. ;)
Fortunately, my power outage lasted long enough to reach for the flashlight.

Re: the avatar thingy. Can you create a custom two tier avatar where only the bottom part changes everyday? Leave the top as your logo or something we all know and love.

You know me, I'm always willing to share. I didn't need that dumb old storm anyway. Aaron told me that quite a few tornadoes were down there a couple of nights ago, but I didn't hear if any serious damage happened to anyone specifically.

I'll eventually settle on something I like again.

You can't quote from a locked thread very easily. :(

+1 that too! I was like, "hey who's this chick in my thread, if my wife catches me... oh wait that's marc!

Can't wait to see your travels... get to building!

If your wife sees a chic in your thread, I've got a feeling she's going to check the username, location, interests, and more. :uzi: No worries.

That's the plan. I'll I need is time.

Hey Marc,
How often do you recommend cleaning my MP40 pump in vinegar ?

I tend to do it about every 6 to 8 weeks. I don't like dirty pumps, because they tend to be an eyesore and they limit the flow over time.

It's going to be a long time. I only started this insanity recently. :D

Keep the money and toss the wallet!!

I still like the last option, keeping it, killing the owner, and assuming his identity. That sounded like the best bang for my buck.

From what I read the mini wide will look very similar to the regular minis, however the facets have a different orientation to produce a wider light cone. This should allow to position them closer to the water surface without having dark areas on the top as the light cones of adjacent reflectors intersect. I believe I read that the optimal distance for the regular lumenbright is 12" from the water surface and 6" for the wides. Man it is so difficult to make decisions based on the sketchy specs you read on the net, without the ability to see it or yourself. Thanks god for the prcious info you gather on the forums.

I am looking forward to start working on the sump, however I doubt my wife will let me use the kitchen table:D

I started a thread for my build. No pics for the time being, just a general description of my plan.

Anybody feel free to participate and give much needed advice.
