Melev's new Nano!

i always thought the problem with gorgonians was preventing algae from growing on the branches, at least that was the problem I had, even when I didn't have algae problems elsewhere.

BTW Marc, I went with the 150w sunpod and couldn't be happier, thanks again for the advice!!

They really aren't too hard to keep if you have decent flow, a way to feed them, and algae doesn't take hold. I've seen them in many tanks, but never really felt the need to get one until I was down in Austin for that tank tour. MakoJ's tank had two beauties growing within his SPS forest, and I was able to get a couple of small frags for this tank.

At MACNA, there was a stunning nano set up with 4 different ones. Here's a shot of it:

I kept a Blueberry gorgonian and eve got it to grow, but without almost daily target feedings it took a turn for the worst when i went on a 3 week vacation.

they are beautiful...feeding often seems like it worked though....think about it..where would they store the food?

ahhhh, the potter's...one of my favorites...beautiful fish

they need no light and strong linear flow from the back
but not fast rapid flow just a strong smooth current.

i was Raising Live Baby brine shrimp and also feeding DTs phyto and frozen cyclopeze, i had it for 8 months and it was really a beauty. :(

there are two guys in my local club with non photosynthetic tanks...

That nano tank from Macna is sharp. Is that one of the raffle tanks I noticed in the pics thread?

I'll second the notion for Gorgonians needing sufficient flow. In my old system, I had put mine in back of my live rock so that they could be viewed through a "cave." Unfortunately, this yellow Gorgonian did not fair well with the powerheads facing out towards the front of the tank. I believe I had inadvertently put it in one of the only true dead spots in the tank, and it quickly succumbed to algae. I can also say that was due to my ignorance of their care, and I should have never taken them as a "set it and forget it" specimen.

GSMguy- Really great pic..:) Did the Potters pick?

Yes, it was a prize.

I love Potters Angels, and I think I'd really like to get one for my 280g. I have one clam. Hmm.

I have a coral beauty and flame angel in my reef tank with my blue max clam and no problems.

Marc, forget it. IMHO it's either the angel or the clam...:) Forget this 50/50 shot people are talking about. It's more like 85/15 in my experience. They think LPS is the hometown buffet...

I have a Potters and a lemonpeel in my 120 with a blue Crocea and have not had any problems. The lemonpeel) has nipped at some SPS, but only a couple of times. Never caused a problem.

my potters was a model citizen only nipped one green pocilipora, good thing it stilll grows like a weed, he was fine with clams and Lps, sadly he died in the tank overheat of july 07

Very cool carpet anemones Marc! I freaking love your tank right now! Also, those Gorgonians are awesome. How long do they take to grow?

-Chris-

nice Gorgonians. I've had an interesting "revelation" with the Purple Ribbon I have-- I had it in my 90 gallon under blazing lights and strong current as is always prescribed and the polyps barely ever emerged, so as a last ditch effort, I took it and stuck it in my 10 gallon with HOB powerfilter and 28W 50/50 PC light....

Whatya know?.....polyps are open all the time and it looks fanstastic. DEVOURS frozen Cyclopeez as well. Sometimes I wonder.....
