I put the Pipefish in this tank and ran to get my camera. As soon as I got back, I saw one of the Mini Carpet Anemones clamped down around the pipefish, so I extracted it from its grasp and removed it from the tank. Whoops!

Thats crazy I cant believe that one of my mini 'nems tried to eat a pipefish. I finally found out the name for them. They are the S. tapetum.

BTW the tank is looking awesome Marc!

Hi Scott! I tried to contact you via your website about two weeks ago, btw.

Yeah, those little guys are cute, and that name sounds right to me. I still have three in my tank.

Evan was here, and left with one of the RBTAs tonight. You should see it in his build thread soon.

Look what I found at Ikea for .49 yesterday. Gotta love the Clearance section.

Once they are installed, you'll know what they are for. I'm not saying anything yet. :D

HA!

Another person found some of those bar pulls in an Ikea as is section. We got some a while back for the same price and I have been meaning to use them on our refrigerator.

GOOD SCORE!

There isn't a lot to update, other than I changed the flow from a Koralia Nano to a VorTech MD-20 in Wave mode.

The two tiny clams were pulled out because the Gobies were apparently nipping at them, so they are safely in my reef.

The tank needs a serious cleaning.

Hi Marc,

Everyone has told me that you cannot use a Vortech on an Acrylic tank.

Have you had any problems with heat and the VorTech MD-20 ??

If not, I would love to get 2 on my 60 gallon cube and sell the big honkin Tunzes. :)

You should do a little cutout in the wall to the left and move the Vortech in there. I know if this was my tank it would only be a matter of time before I bumped into the Vortech where it is now and knocked it askilter or something. :)

But neat thing to do anyhow (put a Vortech on there). Got a video planned yet for the flow as it is now?

"Everyone" has told you incorrectly. The fact is, one tank had one spot that was damaged by one pump, period. "Everyone" has jumped on that example as the reason to not buy one, which is very misleading. VorTech pumps can be placed on tanks up to 3/4" thick, glass or acrylic.

My personal opinion is that people with acrylic tanks should be extra careful, even if that means they have to run their pumps at 75% flow to avoid possible damage. That is what I run all of mine at, but that is because I don't want 100% flow. Even when I had Tunzes in my tank, they were not running at 100%. That type of flow can tear tissue from the skeleton of corals.

This pump is on a 1/4" acrylic wall currently, and I'd like to move it to the opposite side. First I have to drill a hole in the wall so that it can fit in an alcove, so to speak. Then I can pretty much hide the entire thing from sight.

I did shoot some very brief video the day I installed it.

Marc,
What are your feelings on Tunze vs VorTech? I'm looking at setting up a controllable powerhead in a 30 gallon and really just trying to get a feel for the two brands.

D9sccr i have a vortech and a tunze 6055 and the vortech mp20w looks like a real winner
the vortech wave mode is just so great.

i am really interested in trying one out on my 20L

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the reply. I suspected that "Everyone" was wrong about the Vortechs messing up an acrylic tank, but I didn't want to spend the money and take a chance.

The MD-20s would be perfect for my tank and I honestly wouldn't run them more than 50% (my tank is only 2ftx2ftx2ft).

Thanks alot. I see some Vortechs in my future :D
