Melev's new Nano!

Both are well-built products, and both come with excellent product support. The cost of either is significant if you are a MaxiJet kinda guy. However, I have three on my main reef providing all the flow I need (280g reef) for under 90w of power. On this tank, the MP20 uses 6w of power at its current pulse setting. Crazy, right?

I've used Tunze for four years, from the Turbelle to the 6100s with 7094 controller and photo sensor. It was a very good pump, but I hated looking at it. It just used up so much real estate, and the bracket as well as the magnet were just one more thing to look at or modify. It was very reliable. The other downside was the strainers would clog up relatively easily. When I would visit other people's tanks, many wouldn't even clean the pumps, no doubt because it was a job to do it well. I cleaned mine every couple of months, because once clogged they don't produce nearly enough flow. That isn't the fault of the pump, that would be the fault of the owner.

Ever since I saw the VorTech pumps in 2005, I loved them immediately. They take up less space in the tank, and the cord is outside the tank. The pump uses magnetic attraction to hold itself on the glass or acrylic, instead of needing a larger magnet (Tunze) or suction cups (Maxijet, etc).

On my site, there is a VorTech review. And on this site, my Tunze review I wrote years ago is available. It comes down to what you prefer, since it is your tank.

Any idea when those MP-20's get released for the rest of us non-melev peons? :)

I'd love one on my 12g to go along with my Reefkeeper Elite.

Yes, what I lack in volume I will make up for in gadgetry

Migs, you just described two things you can't purchase yet.

It should be out by summer, I've been told. And putting that kind of gear on a 12g is awesome! 6w of power (if you copied my setting) in Los Angeles would be nothing, electricity-wise. You could fill it up with acans and get TOTM. ;)

hey Migs there is a Small hang on ATB cone skimmer coming out soon too, add that to the list, as long as your listing stuff that would be really really cool on a 12 g tank. :)

melev: Yeah I'm on the E-mail list for the RKE pre-order as well as prowling the sponsor forum for updates. I'm chomping at the bit but I've got the RKE/Vortech budget squirelled away along with wife authorization, so I'm 90% there already :)

GSMguy: Any idea how big that thing is gonna be? My only concern is that ATB considers a skimmer that can handle 200g to be "nano" LOL. ATB is definitely on the top of my skimmer list for when I eventually upgrade (along with the Orca), but I'm wondering if it'll even fit on my nano.

Post the link. I wanna see it.

Or we'll just have migston put his livestock in the cone skimmer, and a VorTech on the side with a Reefkeeper Elite probe in the cup. :fun4:

hmm, I wondering what an mp20 would do in one of my 10 gallons now?

P.S. - Melev I've been lurking in this thread for a while, nice job!

It'll work on a 6 gallon too. At MAX, they had a wave on a tiny tank on the table. I video'd that as well, but it isn't uploaded yet.

Time for another update, I see.

Today I received an order from www.Zoanuts.com with 20 ricordia. These have been acclimated and glued to various rocks in the angled tank, and I'll be posting pictures later when the lights are on and they look happy.

One of the naked gobies swam face first into one of the mini carpet anemones last night, and while I was feeding the tank it somehow escaped. However, today I saw a huge cocoon next to my acans, and a hermit was right in the middle of it. I couldn't tell what I was looking at, but soon two huge Nassarius snails emerged into the same spot and I'm assuming that clean up crew just erased the goby's existence entirely, as if it never ever was in my tank before. Crazy.

The Tigertail cucumber fragged itself yesterday.

Here are those pretty acans, before the carnage that occurred overnight. You can even see one of those gobies off to the right. I'm down to one now.

Here's a picture of the cocoon. The clean up crew was long gone.

Check out the new ricordia; the lights are on and they look soo pretty! :inlove:

Who ever said you don't feed the anemone? No wonder it's outgrowing the tank.

no not the bubble tips, the mini carpets they are about the size of a half dollar.
