Melev's new Nano!

Yeah, I forgot the bribe to the Team RC members too, didn't I  It only took 3 tries to get the above post to stick this morning :sigh:

I notice I'm not the only one RC has chosen to ignore... DheereCrossing posted to this thread at 11:29 am... NADA

I'm using FireFox, so BACK will often still have the box filled in my cache... just one of the other things I love about it (and if FireFox ever crashes while I'm typing a post, restore session will keep whatever I've already typed as well) :D

Oh, and the nano still looks way good even under 10k bulbs... wish I had a 280 gallon sump so I could run as nice a 10 gallon tank ;)

When you think about it, Mykel, I have a 280g reef and a 150g sump tied into my little 20g angled tank. The total water volume of this system is probably 255g when you take out all the sand, live rock, equipment and allow for the empty area in the sump. When I treat my system with various products, I do it for 340 gallons' worth. But for Vodka dosing, 255g is what I used to determine the right measurement.

Jeff - you're fired. :hammer:

OK, I think I've found a 250 gal horse trough to use as a sump for my Nano tank. Now I just need to build a stand big enough to hide, or find a return pump that'll lift 16' of head.

Looking good Marc. :)

All the coralline was scraped off where it mattered. The tank's a bit cloudy, but should look nicer tomorrow. Everything in the tank tried to eat the bits of floating coralline.

Are the green blotches on the back glass in some of the photos a type of coralline too? I've seen lots of colors of coralline, but that's a new one for me.

Hey Marc! Just read this entire thread over the course of 3 days. My foray out of the reef hobby only lasted about 10 months. I completely sold everything back in April and broke tank down well before that. Now I'm starting all over with a 28g JBJ nanocube HQI. My 15 month old boy has taken a liking to fish already, loves the little betta in a bowl on the kitchen table, so I thought he would be mesmerized by a saltwater tank. Got the all in one tank so there is no equipment out that he can get into. Trying to keep it as simple as possible this time around.
Your tank looks great! Glad to be back in the game. :)

Good question. The return pump probably pushes in about 300gph, maybe slightly more. And the Vortech in wave mode is probably movingt 1700gph as I don't have it all the way up on high.

OK, I just noticed this post. You've got 2,000 gph in a 20 gal tank?! :eek2: 1hat's 100 times the volume. Dang, I though I was doing good when I upgraded my 20 gal to 400 gph, or 20X volume. How do those clowns not die of exhaustion?

Yes, I have both green and pink coralline in this tank.

Welcome back buddy! I've not seen your username in a long time. Glad to hear about your new tank. Did you start a thread about it so we can see it too? If you like your all-in-one tank, you might also like the Solano & the Cardiff tanks. Those are pretty modern looking.

Wow I didn't even know you had this! I LOVE the way it's plumbed, too cool.

Surprise!

It is in wave-mode, and the clowns don't seem to mind at all. And I don't mind the .62 a month it costs me to run that pump. :D It probably is more like 1700gph, as I don't have the pump at max speed.

I was counting the 1700 from the Vortec, plus the 300 from the sump return. I'm just a bit confused, I've read elsewhere on Reef Central that you need 10 to 20 times display volume for total water movement (wasn't that in your sump article?). You're kind of blowing that out of the water here (pun intended) :eek1:

I'm just wondering if some of my algae issue might be flow related. I recently upgraded my 20 gal with a Koralia nano rated at 240gph, plus a normal 150gph power head. and my 50 gal with two 400gph koralias. Should I have a lot more? Both tanks seem to have gentle to moderate flow throughout now. I'll be upgrading my 20 to a 29 with 20 gal sump soon and want to make sure I set it up right this time.

Thanks again, hope someday my tanks can look half as good as yours.

Phil

Great tanks. I have followed both your tank threads for some time now.

Are you still planning to move the Vortec to the opposite side of the tank and into a wall alcove?

I don't know. It seems like more trouble than its worth. I've had it like this for months and haven't had any issues at all. It just keeps running, and no-one has run into it accidentally.

How's that? Sorry I couldn't resist! :p

I think the thing Marc should fix, is the fact that there are no pics on this page :p
